Title: contaminated storage tank
Post by: steve hamblett on June 14, 2014, 06:20:09 am
Bought 800 ltr tank last year. Inside the screw - on lid there was what appeared to be hand soap. Was assured that it had been thorougly cleaned apart from that. However, started getting complaints. tried cleaning it myself with pure water but still had problems. Want to try cleaning it again although now it also has algae. Any suggestions on what I could use and how?

Sodium Hypochlorite - industrial bleach

Normal bleach will also be ok but put plenty in

I've got an ibc that was 'cleaned out' but had glue in it water based loads of residue still inside, can't take the risk of using it

was it just on the lid??

if so cant see how that would cause that much trouble, i think it's the water it self

SEE, im not the only one moaning about the top of the tank strangely contaminating the water!!!!

I had it filled to the top when the TDS shot to 40.

Put a whole litre of bleach in and let it soak overnight.  rinse it out in the morning and fill it up again.
that sorted it for me.

No wasn't just lid. in fact I took that off sraight away, it's possible some dropped off the lid though. But thanks for  replies. The thing was that I'd had no complaints then suddenly a spate of them and they coincided with the tank.Had no problems since stopped using it but it's better than water butts when yuo're busy
