Title: First commercial quote
Post by: JetVac Cleaning on June 13, 2014, 06:47:47 pm
Got my first commercial job to look at in London. They want specialist clean of self coloured render and a treatment to prevent further staining. I was thinking a trolley system with pole and chemical. Anybody got any advise on techniques , how to price and what the best chemical would be? The price will be for the whole building but I need to confirm this. These pictures are from streetview and will be visiting the site over the weekend. There are 3 blocks of flats.

Its sub contracted from a maintenance company so no link with the flat owners. Do you do any of this type of work simon?

What sort of render is it?
Is it atmospheric  "dirt" or organic growth.
What way do the worst affected elevations face?
Whats around the base of the building?
Any wooden panels?
Any lead flashing easily seen from below?

The Rhino Man has been asked to quote this building also!

The company and especially Claire who asked me to quote - seems very dis-organised and are looking like a low rent outfit to me.

We will probably end up declining to quote as we have too much on at the moment and I smell disaster from EPC as they work from a semi detached house and have been in business only a few months themselves and probably have no means to pay.........They don't even have a website!

Very interesting as this was going to be one of my first questions to them regarding payment as it's bad enough trying to get jobs done without having the added worry of trying to get paid ect.

It is always best to try and get at least a 50% up front payment.

I also think they are looking for quotes as they may want to try and clean themselves - and dont understand how to price

Think I might pass on this one! I'm all for trying to get this type of work in but only just starting commercial stuff I think this might be a bit too big for me. Although would be a great commercial picture for the website and I'm eager to build up a customer base I could price this wrong and end up working for nothing. Although I will take on work in London I absolutely hate the place but understand there is potential to make a good living there. I don't like how vague EPC were and the description they gave via email didn't really explain the job properly which could spell disaster!! >:(

Coloured render cleaning has its potential problems. It is not as straight forward as it may seem.
If you don't know what you're doing you could cause a lot of damage.
