Title: Re-upholstered Suite, Ink coming through??
Post by: Chris R on June 12, 2014, 04:39:46 pm
I went to clean a suite today and on inspection I noticed a couple of ink marks on the back edge of the base cushions (2).
I unzipped the cushions and could clearly see that the upholsterer had used a permanent marker to number up the different fabric cuts and some of these marks had come all the way through the fabric. The suites never been cleaned before.
I informed the customer that any pen marks that had not yet shown through the fabric probably would do after I had cleaned it.
The suite was re-upholstered 18 months ago.
I thought that upholsterers used chalk nowadays?
She is going back to the upholsterer to see what he says?

Anyone come across this before??

Often find marker on inside of cushions, usually at the zip end . I never clean the zip end anyway.

simply place something inside whilst cleaning to prevent it wicking through and dry  completely before removing. Should not really be a problem.

I get it all the time but as geoff has already said put some plastic under the zipper end of the cusion, I learnt this when I first started twenty four years ago from a carpet and upholstery training course I attended in manchester

I always ask when I book a job in, if the suite has ever been re-upholstered. The reason being is the guy who trained me was caught out with this and drummed it into me to check.

How would plastic stop it coming through if its on the reverse of the fabric, this only works if its on the cushion.

The plastic would stop the ink from getting wet
