I did my first big office job on Saturday. It was a pain doing the insides with desks blocking access and crap dumped on sills. What do people generally do about paperwork left on sills. The windows were pretty dirty so there was no choice but to squeegee and mop. I have emailed to say that next time windows with crap on will be left. Is this reasonable?

Thats fine. However, prior to your next inside visit e-mail them asking that anything on the sills be removed by the staff when they leave the night before you do the clean and put on their desks.

Some office staff will remove stuff from window sills if asked and some will hardly bother to move themselves out of the way for you to get to a window in my experience. ::)roll
Rather than removing paperwork etc. myself (which can add a lot of time to the job if having to be done a lot) I carry a dry towel or extra scrim to drape over so no drips go on there.
Easily done and won't add any extra time to the job.

That would help but they were bloody awkward to get to aswell. I don't think I spotted a single window accessible without clambering over a desk.

I use a small extension handle which I put on the end of the wagtail squeegee which I can just about reach most windows with on the couple of offices I do.
I have been known to reach the odd awkward window by getting up on my knees on a desk.

Even if I managed to use an extension, I'd still need to detail so that wouldn't help me much.

Why's that?
To detail in that situation I just wrap the scrim tightly around the end of the pole and run it round the edge of the window.

Fair enough. I guess I could practice, but what about wiping the sill? The windows needed a good scrub with a quite wet mop.

Why didn't you tell me this about 10 years ago?
I think once you start, you've made a rod for your own back; I should've taken Rhino's advice some years back.
But the selfish gimp didn't tell me then.

You don't need to detail. Just leave half an inch around the sides of the window and the top, use your squeegy carefully, and there's no detailing; or if there is, it's not worth the bother of doing it.

You wanna do nursing homes when the sill are full of photos and flowers nightmare. I'm sure if I sent an email saying we want them removed they would prob get in another company

To be honest I would turn down the insides of nursing homes anyway. Not my cup of tea.

i turn most inside cleaning down.you can make good wonga without cleaning inside windows! ;) :)
