Placed a free listing on Yell had the phone call the next morning trying to convince me to spend £150.00 a year to be placed on their pages so when people searched for a window cleaner the yell url came top of searches and i must admit it does.........but maybe its me but i am always drawn more to the middle of pages were mostly but not all the time, the google + businesses are and because of that i have never seen the yell link...is it me????
Is it worth it
-
Me again!! ;D
This day and age, imo really really really not worth it...
No one uses it anymore mate, if you want something nowadays what do you do?
Here's a hint if you're really not sure... google it
Plus i know if few people that have been with yell in the past, nowt but hassle
-
Total ripp off don't deal with yell, waste of time, just keep your free listing
-
I wouldnt even keep the free listing, i used to get 10+ calls aday of yell, total PIA
-
his calling me back on Monday but i have already decided against it, you two have just reaffirmed what i believed.........cheers
-
sorry now three ;D

I use yell.
If you Google my town + window cleaner, my yell listing is result no1.
Can't remember exactly how much it cost me but, I'm pretty sure it works out next to zilch because of membership to FWC.

Just noticed result No2 is my website ::)roll

I've got the free listing and they constantly phone to try and sell me a package, had a expensive package years ago when I did minibus hire and to be honest generally waste of money, for all the calls you get half of them are companies trying to sell you something.
Stick with the free listing and make sure your website is high up on google organic listings.

I saw the stats for click through for a year and i kid you not it wasn't even one click a week!
Yell.com is like the phone book. When the hell do you pull a phone book out and go "Oh yeah, i will flick through all these pages to find a number ::)roll"

Yell is rarely value for money - put your cash into SEO instead & you'll see a much better return on your investment. ;)

Nat what do you mean by "put your cash into SEO"? What would the seo "people" do?

I have to disagree with all of the above comments .
I pay £16 a month for yell and it has paid for itself 10x over
Fair enough it isnt every day the phone rings but im more than happy with what i have gained from my investment .
My ad rotates along with everyone elses so your not going to be the top of yell listings every day but im still on there .
The top spot is a bit pricey at 1k a year 2nd spot is about 800 and third is about 600
But everything else under is rotated .
I put my ad on it went live and within 24 hrs had my first customer and ive had that customer ever since at £12 a go so my ad is paid for from 1 job .
Also puck up extra work in the street too .
-
used to use it for my plastering business. Got quite a lot of work from it. Payed for it self 10x times over.
Now the bad part
You will get every advertising company under the sun phoning you. Same company will phone all the time. This is going back a few years.
Its now rubbish.
DONT DO IT. That's my view
-
Lol duncan i used to be a plasterer too .
I hate plastering now .

I have to disagree with the above as well. I've been paying for yell in two different city areas for the last 9 months and so far my turnover is up by 12k on last year. Every job has come from yell, although my website is linked to it most of the referrals are directly from there. I think if you use it properly and do as they advise you it makes you more appealing to customers

Yell are total parasites in my opinion! I have their number zapped on my landline via Truecall. I also have their numbers blocked on my iPhone! I reckon their desperate tactics and change of name to Hibu are a last stand to stay afloat! They'll be gone in 5 years time!

CANT BELIEVE IT ..........just had an enquiry thru YELL
I am totally in two minds now, i suppose for £15.00 per month its not a massive hit to take.......sleepless night tonight ;D

Like you say for £15 a month you might aswell give it a try, it was just the constant phone calls off yell i didn't like , but if your paying anyway maybe they wont harass you

I paid for advertising on Yell a few years ago for a while. I did get some fairly decent commercial work through it and still have one of those jobs to this day (with all services, the job pays about £540 a year). I used to do a hotel too that was about £100+ a clean - but I lost that when a new manager started who wanted to pay peanuts. There were a couple of other jobs too. I would say that, for me, it was financially neutral. So that side of it was OK. The bit that wasn't OK was Yell phoning me up a lot when renewal time was coming round. I am unclear to this day which part of the word "no" was causing a comprehension problem. Also, and this bit is not Yell's fault, there was a massive increase in telesales cold calling. I accept that other companies may phone me to attempt a sale but not when my numbers are on the TPS register. The bit that was particularly galling was that, due to caller divert from my landline, I was paying a small fortune for those calls to be diverted to my mobile.
-
Another thing to bear in mind whether or not Yell is worth bothering with: Don't compare additional turnover against the advertising cost - compare the PROFIT from those jobs.

Hey Bob,
I did it back in 2007-2008 I think it was. Dave0123 might remember me discussing it. I went in the Wirral-Chester yellow pages and the Wirral Thompson. I also went into the Widness Thompson which they offered me cheap. They paid for themselves and I got a couple of good commercial buildings but I wouldn't rave over them.
