Title: Forty quid to clean the gutters?
Post by: Dave Willis on June 02, 2014, 05:40:09 pm
Woman wanted a quote to empty three, possibly four sets of gutters today. I quoted forty quid a house - she nearly passed out  ;D

Didn't get the job.

you win some,you lose some.

i refuse nearly all gutter emptying unless their low level and easy to reach with a ladder and the job is well priced with g/f/s washed down with wfp as well.

Iv had a few near fainters when pricing fascia and gutter cleans, I sometimes
think its the people who have a few quid that are the worst.

I always charge well for gutter cleaning. Cleaned a large bungalow today and charged £50. They weren't to bad and including set up time and packing away again it took less than an hour. You have to take genie fuel into consideration, hooking up a trailer perhaps and unforseen blockages!

I like the ones that say, "Oh, i thought it was gonna cost about a tenner"!

Don't you just love it when they're already empty and all you have to do is wash them over.  ;D

Tell her to get up the ladder and clean them out then  ;D. I'd charge her £50 on 3 sides

We get this a lot of customers screwing there faces with conservatory roof cleans.

They're asking you to do something that they're not prepared too.
I ask them if they'd be prepared to go up a ladder for a tenner ?
If not, why is my safety worth less than theirs ?

thats the problem with gutters isnt it , especially if you quote them without looking like i tend to do as most people only ask when they know its blocked

You can say £40 and be done in twenty mins , or theyre jam packed and you struggle to make it pay

i hate them, and try dodge them !

Gutter prices:

3 bed semi - £30 a side to wash and brush the outside, soffit and fascia.
Add £20 a side for sucking them out.

Maybe discount to £100 for the whole house if a good custy and not too filthy.

I used to charge £40 for a three bed semi detached in Bradford in 1990  :o

Ladder - trowl and bucket method - those were the days....

Yeah tis a weird one.

Sometimes I quote £40-£60 and I get a look of shock and "oh, I'll have to think about that, can I get back to you, other times I quote a couple of hundred quid if it's a big job and they are fine.

I find the worst customers can be my existing window customers who have never had a gutter clean before, I think they expect it to be comparable to the price for the windows.

You guys are so cheap, we charge £60 back and front if its two side, if its 4 side its at least £100 - £120 and if its about 4 story high, we charge £100 each side, and 8 out 10 we get it.

Its all to do with how you sell yourself  ;)
