Title: CRB / DBS checks for employers.
Post by: steve123 on June 01, 2014, 07:15:51 pm
Got a job that want me and my guys to have CRB check. Or DBS as its now called.

just looked at the gov website and its well confusing. Anyone else done this?

it seems if your a soletrader then its simple, but as an employer its not as straight forward.
Anyone any tips on the simplest way to do it please.

As a sole trader it's not simple bud, you can't get it.
Actually, the company who asked you for the DBS is actually supposed to do it for you (I think it's law but can't be sure)
CleanClear knows a bit about it)
But use a company like

If you're limited it's pretty simple.

 ;D ;D

Its pretty simple and straightforward. For the OP the simple way to do it is actually the way its meant to be done. They want to check you, give your permission and let them. Its for them to do, not you. The type of check they do should be relevant to any exposed risk you may present. If they ask you to provided checks you'll need to remind them of their obligations that they have to check you, not the other way around. If they think their is no such obligation then that pretty much negates a DBS check.
It is possible for an individual to get their own basic DBS check through Disclosure Scotland...

YOu should be aware though that this is for yourself only and NOT your employees. If you do decided to go down the route of doing it yourself for your employees, make sure you register as a data controller or it could bite you in the arse. So to reiterate, let them check YOU and you employees as they will have to sort all the data handling out themselves, and in all probability will refer you to a third party company that specialises in such stuff. WIth of course them footing the tab.
