Since as long as i remember i was waking up on a morning printing work sheets, eating breakfast, then going to the shop for a big can of redbull ( that was EVERY morning) some days it was 2 big cans... And at my worst 4 big cans of relentless one day.
So the other week i decided to knock it on the head and now all i drink is, water, juice and very occasionally a small can of diet coke. Its been 2 weeks since i gave them up.
Just wondering if anyone uses healthy ways of energy on a morning?( not coffee i hate that)??
And im wondering if anyone has fizzy drink addictions like i did aswell?
-
stick with the water definitely but instead of the fruit juice which can in some products contain as much sugar or sweeteners as coke even the no added sugar types, instead just go straight for the fruit itself, the body knows how to deal with natural produce instead of the refined products,i usually take to work big bottle of water ,apples, satsumas, bananas(good anti depressant) and any others that you might like, also for energy porridge is great for breakfast to keep you going,i still dont turn a coffe down if offered one from custys. hope this helps, martin.

Porridge for energy and water for hydration
-
You want balance.
Scrambled eggs on whole meal toast with grilled bacon or 97% meat sausages (they're in Sainsbury's & Waitrose)
Drink a big bottle of water every day.
And this may sound stupid but go to bed earlier.
If you know what time you're up in the morning.
Go to bed 8 and a half hours before. (To sleep, not nookie)
Read before bed, not something on a screen. Something on paper. A book or magazine.
Give it a few weeks like that-you'll be awake before your alarm click goes off.

What about things like vitamins and berocca noone ever use these?

Actually mate, yes, I do.
I have (a massive antihistamine) cod liver oil & a multivitamin washed down with a glass of berocca.
It does exactly what it says on the advert 'you, but on a good day'.
It's not energy per se. But it does do some good. Even perhaps if it's only a placebo...
Tesco do 3 for 2 on these things. (Not the antihistamine)
You won't feel like doing star jumps straight after drinking it but a few days or a week of having one each morning, you just feel...better.
Whatever you do, don't drink a berocca with only liquid in your stomach. You'll vomit. I did-twice.
It doesn't sit well with tea. Have the eggs & toast.

I dont spend nearly as much time in hotels as he does ;D
Could he survive as a window cleaner,i think not :)
-
I usually just have coffee at my Breakfast Meeting. Maybe a fat cigar waiting for my tank to fill and Tokyo to open.
And I don't do lunch; lunch is for wimps.
This is window cleaning; there's no time for such trivialities.
-
I find it hard to eat in morning! I usually have a cup of tea, a belvita biscuit and a banana! All forced down ..........
Although the egg on wholemeal toast sounds very appealing..
-
I too had a serious red bull addiction. For about 4 or 5 years I used to get 2 cans first thing in the morning. Every single morning.
About 2 years ago now I had a really weird reaction, a bit like my heart was beating irregularly and it scared the poop out of me. I've not drank an energy drink since.
I take a large bottle of water to work every day and also drink plenty of freshly squeezed orange juice.
Incidentally I have just found out that my 19 year old cousin has now got Chrohns disease due to him being addicted to energy drinks. He's apparently been drinking upto 5 cans a day for 3 or 4 years! :o
-
I find being fit and exercising regularly gives me more energy, though to begin with it's not easy.
I do like a cup of coffee in the morning though.
-
I remember watching an interesting investigative documentary on the sports industry in general. This covered food, drink, and footwear amongst other things. They came to the conclusion that with few exceptions, it was all just a big con to get you to spend lots of money on stuff you don't really need.
For the purpose of this post, one of the most interesting, and amusing, sections, was when they spoke to Graham Obree, the Scottish cycling legend who built a track cycle in his kitchen, out of, amongst other things, bits from an old washing machine. When out training, he took water to drink, and jam sandwiches (on brown bread), which, he insisted, was gave him all he needed!.
Personally, i cant go without breakfast, this consists of 2 cups of either Earl Grey, or redbush tea along with, in the winter, porridge, and in the summer, a mixture of muesli and granola with some seeds and nuts mixed in. This keeps me going fine till dinner, and, like breakfast, i cant miss my dinner (though i may only stop for as little as 20 mins).
-
Volvic flavoured is good. I go through a bottle of that a day. If I remember correctly the lemon, summer fruits and strawberry are all suger free, but orange flavour does have about 12grams of sugar in it (if your trying to stay away from sugar).
I have the odd can of coke, relentless or monster but this is rare, maybe a few times a month if and when I have a very busy day with early start late finish 8pm - 9pm i'll some times neck one. Or also good before going to the gym.
I also find a large strong coffee is a good boost. That's all these energy drinks are, loads of caffeine and sugar. The more you drink these drinks you'll find it wont have the same effect, so you need to keep of drinking more of it to get the same hit. Its like the body becomes used to it.
Instant porridge with extra raisins is what I have in the morning with a banana and a coffee, and a glass of milk. I would have scrambled eggs and toast if I could be arsed making it.
-
Lemon relentless. In my van cool box. Nice and cold.
-
problem with red bull and other such energy drinks, they are so high with sugar they give you a instance high, then you get a big down side effect,
so in a effect think of a big dipper,up,down,up,down,
now to have a good energy levels you need to think you keep that balance on a level straight line ;)
little and often is the best and not a ltr straight down, also to much water can de-hydrate a flush out all the goodness in you,put we are talking big amounts.
for me breakfast with cuppa, water though out the day,a bite to eat for dinner, more water then tea,and as much fruit as I like
also keep in fit help which I do a little bit of ;D
-
Dripping on toast followed by a deep fried Mars Bar for me washed down by a full fat toffee milk shake. Pop home lunch time for bacon egg sausage and black pudding with fried bread followed by last nights Indian takeaway. Tea time is usually a bargain bucket for ten.

I couldn't agree with you more, I was finding it hard to motivate myself and was always tired.
Started taking Berrocca and couldn't believe the difference it made.
Like you say it might only be a placebo but as long as it works I couldn't care less.
-
Berrocca has been highly recommended so i will go buy some,
Might even treat myself to some tropicana for having glass with my breakfast! After all the redbull was costing me £2.50 or more lol
-
I always start the day with a bowl of Frosties and a tea with 4 spoonfuls of sugar.
By 11:30 I am ready for a bottle of Locozade and Yorkie bar. That keeps me going until around 2:30, when I may have another Lucozade.
Any offers of tea from customers are always gratefully accepted!

Hi,
I changed you diet/lifestyle about two years ago and it has completely changed my life. I have virtually deleted all types of sugar from my diet. My body burns natural fat instead of glucose. This gives me an even fuel supply all day long without insulin being pumped into my bloodstream because of sugar spikes. I burn natural fat as a fuel which comes from my diet and my fat reserves.
My weight at the moment is 11.5 stones and I'm 6ft 1" I used to suffer from depression and migraine, this is what made me change my diet. I don't have depression anymore nor migraines. I have never really been over weight. Had a bit of a pot belly a few years back because of eating crap/sugar/beer.
Things I don't eat now are............
Potatoes
Pasta
Rice
Bread
Pastries
Biscuits
Any whole grains
Oats
wheat
barley
Milk
Fruit juice
Beer (liquid bread)
Bananas
Oranges
Melons
Anything that grows under ground.
Anything with added sugar or high in fructose
Anything "Low Fat" Don't be fooled your eating a chemical poop storm!!
Things I do eat are.......
Red Meat
Poultry
Oily fish
Pork
Eggs
Bacon
Sausage 90% Meat
Single & double cream
Lots of green veg
Peppers
Chillies
Salad lots of
Full Fat yogurts
Full fat mayo
Lots of cheese
Chocolate as a treat 70% cocoa
Flax seed
Sesame seed
Sunflower seed
Walnuts
Cashew Nuts
Hazelnuts
Almonds
Coconut Oil/Milk
2 Litres of bottled water a day
Odd glass go whir/red wine
Any spirits :-)
Following this lifestyle is so simple when you get used to it. You don't have any food cravings. You only eat when your hungry. Because your eating a high fat content and hardly no carbs you stay fuller for longer and have high/constant energy levels all day long.
LCHF = Low calorie High Fat
-
If done incorrectly your body can go into ketosis when its starved of carbs for to long!
Read up on mens health, they always advise after a period of time dieting(no carbs diet) have a carb loading day.

LCHF = Low calorie High Fat
This is essentially Atkins diet.
It's brilliant for cutting.
Aren't you slightly under weight for your height though?

Yes I try to stay in Ketosis all of the time. I know when I'm in ketosis because I feel great. If I lose my will power and cheat ( going for a few drinks with mates then tuck into a curry) I pay the price for about two weeks!! It takes that long for your body to get back into ketosis. Those two weeks feel like I have eaten poop, which essentially I have. :-)
Remember I am on a high natural fat diet. Lots of butter, cream, oily fish etc. Because of this I'm not on a diet to lose weight but concentrating on keeping my blood sugar/insulin levels correct.

The original Atkins Diet advised you to eat lots of man made fats & Omega 3. I eat natural fats, lots of butter cream, oily fish & fatty steaks.
I have always been lanky & quite skinny. I still have plenty of fat on me which I would like to turn to muscle.
Just as a comparison.......Did you watch the Boxing last night? Carl Froche v George Groves at Wembly in front go 80,000 people. Carl won in the Eighth round. Anyway Carl's stats are..... Aged 36... 6FT 1"....11 St 13" 3% body fat.

Yep that's what it says in that article but personally I think that's exaggerating a bit.
In this article he says 8% which I think is more believable: http://www.boxingnews24.com/2014/05/froch-im-not-sure-groves-will-ever-be-a-world-champion-not-tough-enough/
Some bodybuilders and long distance running athletes can get their body fat down to 3% but most people cannot ever reach that level, it's certainly not a level that a boxer needs to reach.
At 3% and below the body loses it's ability to maintain it's core temperature.
-
Surely the bodyfat stats given are for the weigh-in anyway?
They tend to put weight on between the weigh-in and actual fight (most of the time) so the body fat % would again change
-
Food is what your body wants for energy. Maybe if you are an ultra athlete who needs a bit extra then there's special drinks ? But carbs and a healthy breakfast should give you all you need.
I found last year when I made sure I drank 3L of water a day at least and ate right as well as running a few times a week it felt great
I admit I drink coffee in the morning - fresh bean coffee to wake up a bit .
But I only drink water unless it's weekend and I fancy a proper drink :) been polishing a nice bottle of auchentoshan this weekend
Stay well away from that energy drink crap.
Only time I touch lucozade is if I'm ill and can't eat otherwise it's all a con and not good for you
-
On the body fat percentage - below about 8% unless your body building your body as an athlete would actually be less efficient
A lot of athletes are around 10% or just over
-
Yes but once you have had energy drinks for so long your body needs that little kick on. Morning, and food just doesnt do it for me! I have a great diet aswell full of
Proteins and small carbs

My food diet i was on about, im big on the gym and play football at a good level so this could be the reason i feel i used to need the drinks because i was doing a lot
Of excercise aswell as a physical job.
My diet is very good apart from the energy drinks wich i stopped drinking 2 weeks ago, i had a berocca today and so far i feel quite wide awake

if you need vitamin supplements something no doubt is wrong with
your diet,do you eat plenty of veg salad and fruit.
My day normally starts with bowl of porridge with sliced bananna
pint of water,if i get peckish around lunchtime i have a couple of
satsumas and a pear or two and plenty of water.
If your diet isnt the problem then you are obviously not getting
enough rest, putting down your iphone once in a while would
probably help ;D
-
Those energy drinks taste horrible, as well.
-
No bull!

Eat what you like and die 5 years early, maybe! The stress of fearing what you eat and living a life of boredom & calorie counting is so sad! Youll die a miserable old numpty in the end!

It's not just about dying prematurely. You can get some nasty illnesses and diseases before you croak by eating and drinking what you like.
Your quality of life could be affected. Not being able to walk, breathe properly, poo normally etc.
Just saying, like.

4 cans of tennents in my bucket does the trick and a couple in pub at lunch time with a trip to bookies
-
Well i should imagine if you were playing 11 a side 2 times a week, gym 4 times, then on the windows the rest! You would struggle getting motivated sometimes gary! I bet the only work you do is lifting that s huge phone to your ear ;D
Joking aside you would believe my diet its packed full of vegetables and meats! I spend about £60 in the butchers once month.
As for living my life and not stressing its not as simple as that! Imagine if i carried on drinking so many energy drinks i would have teeth like burnt down
Terrace houses( like the rest of Middlesbrough)
I also could damage my liver or heart!

Maybe you are overloading on the meat its a dense material and
takes a lot to digest and can leave you feeling lethargic.
im not much of a meat eater, bit of poultry is normally all i eat
you can get plenty of protein from veg, cauliflower, asparagus etc
im full of beans every morning it drives my family mad ;D.
I strongly suspect you are burning the candle at both ends
and you are not getting enough rest, which more or likely accounts
for your kevin and perry like lethargy in the morning ;D
-
I eat at least four bags of crisps a day and I'm as fit as a butcher's dog.
-
i take a flask of tea to work every morning and a bottle of water or juice plus a packed lunch(sandwiches, yoghurt, cereal bar, apple and banana).that usually keeps me going throughout the day plus a few coffees off customers usually.
breakfast is a coffee and a cup of tea, juice and toast, sometimes eggs and potato cakes or pancakes! :)
i never drink so called "energy" drinks.

Avoid the fruit juice; it's not healthy; it's basically sugared water.
