Does anybody else struggle to sleep the night before a job. I'm relatively new to pressure washing and I find the night before the job that I hardly sleep through worrying something will go wrong ie the pressure washer, water pressure, drainage etc etc
-
I'll go out on an honest limb here.
Yeah I sometimes do, if its an aspect of the job I haven't done for a while then yeah, I can sometimes have a broken nights sleep. Or if I know the surface is real dirty and fsc is gonna have trouble cutting through. But I have suffered with anxiety issues for about 10 years now after a traumatic experience when I was younger. Its the only aspect of myself that if I could change I would. In general I have learnt to control it to stop it effecting my life.
But one of the things I love about pressure washing is that very little can go wrong. You can't really damage anything (unless your a clown and point a turbo nozzle at a block for 5 minutes solid) if it doesn't clean up to standard then you can always re do it and all you'll loose is your time. It's not as if your a builder half building an extension and then it all goes wrong.
So in essence try not to worry, residential pressure washing is a pretty relaxing job in general. Just enjoy it.

Try Kalms.
I suffered terrible anxiety earlier this year, nothing in particular just work load and managing people. It would leave me shaking in the morning, heart palpitations, waking early etc.
I use some propanol and then some Kalms for around 4 week and I've been fine since, still wake early but think that's just me.

Respect for being honest guys
had anxiety for years due to childhood, I find exercise does me the world of good, also it's removing dirt at the end of the day, a logical approach is key to good stress management.

Yes, really big window clean jobs, where you suddenly feel that price you put in is awfully low, or you won't get to those tricky to reach windows you promised were no problem, or they hate the results! All silly things that once you've done the done were not a problem at all.
PW is still a learning curve, so again when moving into high access stuff, roof cleaning I get a nagging pain. ( IBS brought on by a total barsteward of a senior manager who made my life hell for 3 years )

Ive got IBS is just as bad, I find both IBS and anxiety each trigger each other off. I have medication that I use when I get IBS, normally I can control it with fibogel. But medication in extreme circumstances. I didn't know of any anxiety medication, may have to look into it. I'm not a big fan of pills, can probably count on 1 hand the amount of times ive taken paracetamol in the last 10 years.
Often find the things that play on my mind are usually things that once I'm on a job aren't really a problem, it was usually all in my head all along.

The only stuff for anxiety (mrs smudger suffers this leaving the house ) are things like Valium and horrid tabs of this ilk - best kept away from as they bring there own set of problems
I found busopan excellent for my IBS

Imodium Plus is your friend.
I've suffered with IBS for 5 years now, I had just starting to get my life back after getting it under control and BAM, I discovered I had anxiety issues. At least now when I'm out I worry about panic attacks which ultimately can't hurt you instead of needing to rush to the toilet.
I gave up on the meds that were prescribed and find that Imodium Plus (or the standard Imodium but plus is faster) work better and if I've had a bad IBS session (you know what I mean) I take a couple of 200mg ibuprofen to kill the pain and stop inflammation. Works for me.
As for the anxiety, I just grin and bare it. It's annoying but it can't hurt me.

Mibe sounds very similar to yours Andy. It's good to know that I am not on my own
-
I hate it but it's now much better than it used to be. I've been in a very dark place because of IBS.
-
If this is an IBS group can i join :D ive got colitis so its a bit more extreme and a shed load of meds more, but still could have been worse my bro has crones and hes in a bad way, its a crappy illness ( pun intended ) ;D but till there's a cure we have to get on with it.

Hello Kevin,
it is normal to be nervous before a big job, especially if you do not have much experience. But this will pass. Make sure you give yourself enough time to rest between tough jobs.

Enough time to rest between jobs ? If you kept busy you would'nt have enough time to worry. What is there to worry about unless your going to loose your house ? If things go wrong then its just an insurance claim and get onto the next job.
Where did you drag this old thread from ?

I find the best cure for a sleepless night and worry about a job is not to give a flying duck or have confidence in what ur doing
as BDCs said that's what insurance is for
