Title: Buying a van!
Post by: st teath windows on May 24, 2014, 01:45:21 pm
I am thinking of buying a van, been looking on ebay  and my question is. Has anyone bought a van/car off ebay without viewing and test driving it? just buying it ,off what is put on the advert and the pictures taken.

Yes but dont just go and give him the cash and drive off, make sure you check everything and testdrive it, only when your fully satisfied hand over the cash

I have bought 3 vans off ebay:
1. 1988 Ford Fiesta van. Paid £130 for it in 2004. Had 18 months trouble free use out of it until it was stolen/written off.

2. Another 1988 Fiesta van. Paid £54 for it in 2007. Ran it for 3 years with no major problems.

3. 1999 1.8 diesel Fiesta van. Paid £995 for it in 2010. Had some issues at the start, but still run it today and it is fine.

All adverts had photos and descriptions which seemed to match the vehicle when face to face with it. In each case they were located 180+ miles from home, so the drive home gave me plenty of time to determine if they were up to the job.

Your best bet is to research common faults with that particular van then phone the seller prior to bidding and ask the question.

There are scoundrels out there but eBay is a good place to sell vans so you do get genuine sellers too.

Personally I wouldn't feel at ease buying a vehicle on eBay! Too risky , too many swindlers out there.......
