Title: GutterVac problem?
Post by: Fin Clearview on May 19, 2014, 10:33:31 pm
Had a call back on a one off vac job last week, the gutter was overflowing after persistent rain at the down pipe. Went back and said either a bracket or down pipe blocked which the vac cannot clear as the crevice nozzle can't get round the s bend before it connects to the down pipe. Not usually a problem on easy access down pipe but this one was right next to the side of the conservatory with no access other than to either go on the roof or ladder over conservatory, neither which I was prepared to do as my insurance would definitely not cover, nor was it worth risking.

I put the ladder up to the side of cons for inspection and I could see the down pipe was blocked as water was struggling to get through so I offered to attach custy hose with trigger gun to a tele plus pole as there was good water pressure there and try and flush it which I did but not completely. What tool do you use? I spoke to Oliver at Grippa but it seems this is one job gutter vac's can't manage?

Drain rods...

Undo a lower section of guttering and rod from that section up

A power lance with a unbend fitting and attached to a pressure washer. Flushing the down pipes should be a priority with all gutter cleans. You look a cowboy otherwise!

Cheers, Andy Will the rods get round the s bend section of the down pipe?

JD what's a unbend fitting and how do you get it up to the down pipe which was where it was today by the side of cons with no access?

Fin, you can buy a power lance and they can reach up to 25 ft or so from the safety of ground level. You connect it to a pressure washer and blast the dirt/blockage down the down pipes. The u-bend is just an attachment that fits on the end of the power lance and is the perfect angle for sticking down the pipes. You can purchase them from JETMAC in portadown in Ireland.

stuff a little waffle cloth down there.

I think someone on here pushes a squash ball down the pipe. Works every time apparently.
