Has anyone had to have a new clutch fitted to a 02 Hiace D4D if so could you give me some idea of price please. Had the old girl for 4+ years and paid £1450 never let me down allways sails through its mot , but with over 200.000 on the clock think it could be time to start looking for a replacement. Adam

I don't think it would be economical to pay for the fitting of a new clutch ! My advice is to get rid!

You've never owned a hiace have you?
If you look after them they are bomb proof. Only thing that is a killer is rust on the chassis.

I havent Jonny. However if i owned a 12 year old Hiace that required a new clutch then id know that the price of fitting that new clutch would be the price of what the vans worth! And once things start going wrong with an old vehicle its a constant battle and youll never be away from the garage!

Just been quoted £300 max, I was thinking it would be more like £800 so not to bad

Most Hiaces are rear wheel drive and changing the clutch is much easier and quicker than on a front wheel drive.
Unfortunately you are in the same boat as a lot of tradesmen. The value of your van is less than what most major jobs cost. You have to evaluate whether the money is worth spending on it or not.

So a 02 plate hiace is worth less than £300 ? No in my bit of England ;)

Very true.
I get about 170 miles out of £40.
If it had better fuel economy the van would be the best out there by far as far as running costs and reliability go.
