Title: Must Have Tool For Every Carpet Cleaner
Post by: ian harper on May 18, 2014, 10:40:23 am

Must Have Tool For Ever Carpet Cleaner Riso I have had three and this one cost me around £200

As you can see the quality is great

Getting your message out is key to success. With this Riso I can print everything I need. What you see in the video is a card cover for my consumers guide.

Its great for testing new messages on leaflets being able to A And B test has major benefits. Distilling the message to one that works and dumping ones that don't get any response.

If you want to print your own guides Microsoft word has a template as you need to get the double sided page numbers set up so they print out the the the right order.

Why is it different to other printers? I think Allan Simmons uses one.

I had one for years...

Time has moved on, and the price of professional printing has dropped...

You can do your own leaflet testing with a laser jet these days..

hopefully you have the design skills to create whatever  you are going to print on the riso,

having  a riso without the design skills is like having a great car when you cannot drive.

even with the large volume printers the cost of toner is greater than the cost of professional large volume print. We have a large volume printer and it is cheaper to get long runs printed. The quality of print is also a factor and buying paper in small volume is expensive. Above any thing else the quality of presentation is paramount. I have seen lots of homemade leaflets printed by individuals that although, they think they are fine, they do look very amateurish.
When an individual  leaflets works out at about a penny why would any body want to go to the trouble of delivering something that is not 100% or reduce the response rate in any way.
Like many things printers invest a lot of money in their equipment, it is a bit like comparing a rug doctor to what we do.
We do print short runs to cater for specialised markets but it is just not worth the effort on volume.

I had one for a while but found it cheaper and easier to get full glossy from print carrier.
There used to be a printing company from Yorkshire way, think it was dp, they used to do leaflets for carpet cleaners, they used to get them done by print carrier and then put their mark up on them  :D

I hear what you are saying but mark used to design the leaflet which can take time, I was talking to a designer a month ago and he does the same as mark.

print carrier have killed or saved the small printer in this country depending how you look at it.

mark like most small printer have moved away from the mechanics of printing and become 'designers' if you have the design in the correct format and precise size then submit it yourselves to printcarrier.

but it becomes an expensive mistake if its not correct, like they say on their website... 'all we do is print' I have had leaflets come which are almost unreadable as they colours are too dark.

plus using a printer makes it easier to amend the design on each order, I suppose it like machine servicing if you have the knowledge do it yourself, if you don't then pay someone to do it right

also resellers get a discount and priority service from printcarrier so the mark up by the printer is not much more than going direct

The cost of professional printing is now so ridiculously low that many printers are going bust.I speak as someone who worked in print for 35 years before getting into CC.My last 3 employers all went bust by the way.

Why anyone would want to print their own crap leaflets when 4 colour process printing is now so cheap is beyond me.

I often find it amusing when CC moan about price shoppers and those wanting cheap jobs yet they look to buy cheap in other services.

I think Ian is saying the Riso is good for short runs and you can vary the message Ie when I do blinds I try two for £79 two for £99 and 2 for £139

What I aim for is maximum profit on putting out the leaflet

So 2 for £79 little profit but higher response rate

I Noticed Ian was printing Over 200 Facts you should know about Carpet Cleaning Booklets   was wondering if its a handout or a door drop.

While I agree Print Carrier Prices a good and its gloss etc 5000 A4 is about £100  on 70gram
Depending where you buy Paper 5000 riso is £25 plus  say £20 toner and Masters But its only two Colour and Copy Paper  Both Double  Sided

Yep.....you can be a price shopper for a product when you know you can get said same product at a better price elsewhere....not always so with a service.

So is your point that supplying 5000 leaflets is not a service and only a product.

There are crap cowboy printers just as there are are crap cowboy CCers

Printer A isn't always going to be the same as Printer B

Printer is selling a service.
Buying a car is buying a product and is where you should price shop...why buy BMW from dealer A when dealer B offers the same car with the same terms at a £1000 less.

In this topic we are discussing the printing of leaflets.

A leaflet is a physical, exact item that can be compared to another exactly, it is not a service that has multiple variations of achieving the required outcome.

A 135gm DL full colour leaflet can be compared to a 135gm DL full colour leaflet.

If I can buy 1000 for £25 or pay £125 then I can be a 'price-shopper' and buy the cheaper one knowing exactly what I am getting

And what happens if printer A sends you half your job out of register with lots of colour variations and badly "set off" and fails to deliver on time.

Then printer B sends you a perfect job on time, but might be £25 dearer.

You don't know exactly what you are getting.

Product and service go hand in hand, one with out the other is doomed to failure, after all what is the end 'product' you are all trying to achieve.
