My old leisure battery is just about dead so went to caravan shop after work today to buy a new one, the old 75 amp one lasted 3 yrs so no complaints.
So back to the same place as I purchased the old one, thought I would upgrade to 105 amp.
So I fit new battery there and then in caravan shop car park.
Switched my varistream on,no power. So im thinking new battery may need a good charge first,so turn on engine of van and varistream is now live, great I pull away.
Drive home 10 mins latter, varistream still dead on battery alone,so run engine another 20 mins to charge battery, still the same, varistream works when engine running but not with new battery.
Whats up ??

Looks as if its a dud, you need to buy a battery from a dealer who sells a enough of them.
Caravan dealers tend to be more expensive so the batteries can sit for years.
If its been allowed to go flat then I would take it back for a refund.

I worked in motor trade for years and can tell you its faulty in a big way. Even bad recons that's pull a third of a normal car battery would drive a pump easy. Get your money back and go to a battery seller or car parts shop that sell good sealed battery. Look out for the all black bad ones. Ask if they are remanufactured. Varta are good ones, Bosch...but make sure its a new one. Check Halfords prices. They sell good ones but not sure on price

Thanks for the advice folks

Give it a bench charge if you can
20mins on a split charger will barely charge it if it had no charge in it, and varistreams wont run the pump if the battery is low to protect it...
Edit :just read the varistream wont even turn on so slightly odd...

Trippy the best place for batteries in Bristol is Bristol Batteries in St Philips. They will test your old battery to see if it's beyond charging and have a great range of leisure batteries at competitive prices.
A good split charge relay and a smart charger for your leisure battery should ensure a long battery life before they need replacing.
