Hard drive packed up on my laptop thursday morning :o
No problem I thought - buy a new one, reinstall George and off we go again.............. only I hadn't backed up George in ages because I knew it had internet back up and basically I never did it any more.
Quick email to George support - nothing, great ::)roll
Never mind- dig out an old back up and re-install it, still can't do it.
Couple more emails to George and I'm getting worried now. Eventually I get one back "as you haven't paid the subscriptions since 2012 and haven't backed it up recently- you've lost the lot"
Couldn't believe it! I was sure I'd paid - apparently not and Paul Sanders has obviously got no interest in me at all.
So Aworka it is then.......... only I've had to put every job in from memory and diaries. The format is very different from George but I'm getting there.
Back up everything!!!

For me (being rather thick) it's the support that I need. I have to be able to get help when things go wrong. I also fancy the option of using it on my phone and tablet.
-
MS word & A4 diaries= no problems!! ;D
-
As a rule save everything in 3 places
-
personally i believe george should charge ten times what he does , id cough up ,so would many
well maybe not ten
five ? still a good deal

Once you get more customers you will see the advantages Andy. :)

What do you mean no interest at all? you didn't renew your subscription what do you want him to do? it warns you everyday for about 2 weeks when its about to expire
-
:) and I pay it - or so I thought. I press the back up to internet every night and it seemed to go ok, no warnings nothing. I can't spot any payments in my bank statements so maybe I didn't pay. I cant remember how it appears on the statement either. Anyway, too late now.
What was odd was the old data flashed up a warning immediately when I tried to back it up telling me it couldn't be backed up to the internet. No warning on the up to date stuff.

Not sure if im upto date with the £12 subscription seems ages since I paid it must be over 12 months but had no reminder to pay it, does it come out automatically? cant see anything on my statement got me worried now

You should get a message appear every time you try to log out of George.
This usually starts appearing approximately 2-3 weeks before expiry date.
If you are unsure I suppose you could email Paul at George to confirm your expiry date.
It's worth making sure it's paid up to date. ;)
-
That's just it - mine didn't.
If you haven't paid then yours won't get backed up either.

Have to agree, keeping my own records and doing paperwork is the only thing that stops me from becoming a
complete zombie.
I find I need it to give my two brain cells something to do once in a while.
Suppose it would be a different story if I employed.

Think I should contact paul and check
-
Let us know if your subscription is out.
-
will do dave
-
thats why I set george to backup to google drive everytime I exit. I have hundreds of copies on my laptop and online
-
MS word & A4 diaries= no problems!! ;D
ms exel spreadsheets + diary. Everything written in pencil (can be rubbed out later)
No Problem No expence
-
Dave, I feel for you, however as the saying goes .... " To assume is to make an ass of u and me!!"
You will have had reminders about your back up running out, it comes up in the last month or so of your subscription, when you are logging out telling you the expiry date, it's then a simple case of clicking on it and renewing it. People tend to think they'll "do it later" then forget and it expires.
You can't blame Paul or George for you forgetting to back it up, it is not their responsibility if you have forgotten to pay the subscription.
Personally with over 3000 regular customers I think George is a brilliant system, easy to use, reliable, excellent support and very, very cheap.
-
Yes I agree with you. I thought the system was brilliant for seven years. I don't blame anyone but myself. However I think George should have some software informing you that you aren't actually backing up anything at all to the internet every time you click on save!
Apparently I was doing it every day for two years not realising my subs were out!
-
Hi Dave
You might want to see if you can remove the data from the drive, I appreciate you say it's packed up but I understand files can sometimes be recovered.

I just e-mail my spreadsheet to myself once-a-week. At most I lose a weeks worth of updating; which I should be able to put together from my daily printouts and memory.
And I'd just use Wor Little Un's computer to work from if mine died.
Job jobbed.
