What would make the resin last longer or is it not worth the hassle of swapping the 6 ltr vessels
2x6ltr vessels or 1x12ltr vessel
Thanks Paul

Two vessels will work much better than one. Let's say your input is 300TDS and you're rejecting resin at, say, an output TDS of 2. With one vessel it all gets thrown away and replaced.
If you use two vessels then you reject resin in container B at TDS 002. You then move that to be container A and up until the point it's outputting at 300TDS (i.e. doing nothing at all) you're still getting use from it as it's reducing the input TDS to vessel B (even if only by one part per million).
I would agree with other posters - get the biggest vessels you can afford /carry.
