Title: Alternative to minitex
Post by: Simon Gerrard on April 05, 2014, 06:28:26 pm
What's an alternative to the Minitex.
Are some of you using drills for agitation?

I'm looking for something similar if anyone can suggest something.

Would it not be best to use a normal drill rather than a battery powered one? saves faffing abouting wit multiple batteries.

battery one is just more comfortable, you will no need to use more then 2 batteries  a day, unless realy a lot of commercial job to do
today i did 2 sets of upholstery, draught marks in one room and was changing battery twice (one half charged, full charged and third time maybe used a half of power)

dual action polisher is too noisy, have one for car polishing and would not use it inside

I thought the maguires orbital was rubbish it just shook about I think a drill with its constant turning action would be better with a buffing pad on it I don't think you need a brush.

Creighton,
It does look like the Orbot Mini.
What applications do you use it on and how manoeuvrable is it?
Thanks

Way too fast, I would have thought, 2500 rpm minimum, lots of unwanted friction and heat build-up.

The kestrel and the meguires ones are variable speed, well my ones are anyway, i have been using them to do car upholstery for quite some time with no issues, i have yet to take the step of using it on someones suite though, I just feel it would look better with the clyco or minitex, I would have a heart attack if someone turned up at my home and got a DA polisher out on my suite...  ;D

iv'e used it no problem on low setting it doesn't feel too fast and i don't go ott on anything it works a treat and don't apply too much pressure.

I certainly wouldn't be happy using it on a customers £5000 three piece thats for sure, if it had been 250-400 rpm I would of taken the chance on some upholstery but two thousand ! Think you are just asking for trouble

stuart, DA is not rotary, there is a huge different.
no way to make any damage or get any heat, more safe then rotary,
rpm given to them is not rpm of rotary, it is oscilation of the pad.
thats why (for example) amatour detailers are going first for DA machine then rotary

and thats why I prefer rotary then any DA machine for upholstery, rotary agitate better.

the white rota brush is very fine, you would need to agitate paper to make any damage, the yellow one is for more stuborn dirt and fabrics that can take it and most will do.

Rechargeable Bosch drill and brushes which I think CSUK sells now although at the time I had to buy from the states.
You can vary the speed by how much pressure you exert on the trigger.
