Title: Google Plus can be amazing
Post by: Luc on April 01, 2014, 05:07:04 pm
We have  been working on Google Plus for 6 months now and we have picked up over a hundred back links from Google in the last 6 months that the experts are saying will ultimately give  us some benefit in serps. I do know  that  in the G+ community we are in https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/113851995878848732706/communities/116014967343607280698 there are several individuals who in the last 6 months have gone from oblivion on page 2/3 to a good position on page one for respective search terms for their business domains and they attribute this to a good presence on Google plus which unlike facebook,  twitter and forums whose links are no follow, some of the Google links are followed which means Google are giving some domains link juice so its a no brainer any one wanting to grow their business should be there taking advantage of Google Plus  that gives direct access to their search engine that controls 82% of the internet.
It is essential to have a business profile that links to a personal profile who is a real person that builds a presence through authorship that subsequently Google will  treat you with some preference as opposed to the the shady  anonymous entity's who are deploying black hat SEO  practices. Thats where I think the guys I know on Google + have done well because Google is already acknowledging authorship and applying the same to the businesses linked to the owners  in there  algorithms.

But G+ is too difficult to use/manage for most people.

Facebook is fairly easy to understand and use, and it looks nice too.
G+ is just, horrible!

Hi David.... It is like most things when thy are new... its getting used to them I still find Facebook difficult to navigate around and hate the advertising element involved with same but there is no denying the fact that Google plus is a growing medium (its allready overtaken Twitter) and most experts are saying a business should have a presence there and as  stated we personally know several businesses that have undoubtedly benefited from same with a much higher position in serps

Their has always been something that gives you a kick up the serps.

It used to be years ago with spammy text ( keyword stuffing ) and invisible text.
You could also add excessive reciprocal links or buy loads of links to boost your Google ranking.

Then social media likes was a big part of optimization.

So yes it looks like Google + plays a big part for now,
but that will change and the algorithms will account for this in future.

If you believe the experts then content should be your biggest long term aim as far as optimization is concerned.

I'm not sure why Google believes content is king.
I just skim read websites and hate it when their is loads of text,
I prefer websites to be to the point and just tell me what they do without waffling on!!!

I've been using some very sophisticated tracking software recently. It's telling me that on a page of 99 paragraphs and 2,109 words, most visitors are scrolling right down and reading every paragraph from top to bottom. It also says that 75% of visitors are using tablets rather than PCs or mobile. Google has access to all of this information.

All the more reason then to take an interest in Google plus because it is the visual element of photos and videos that makes the difference.
they get 10 to 1 the views that written content get.
the old adage comes to mind a picture paints a thousand words and G+ make it so simple to use photos and videos on You tube

Okay - But can some PLEASE tell me the difference between my Google+ thingy (I know, it's like facebook) and G+ 'PAGES' which are some kind of bolt-on afterthought - but do seem to allow a 'business listing'.

Here's my attempt at a google+ PAGE (as aposed to my G+ profile er, page!):

https://plus.google.com/+zap-clean/posts

...Do I post to that, or my personal profile?

I just don't get how these two entities relate/interact.

For personal use or meaningful search results, I make sure I am logged out of any Google service and that I have cleaned out cookies beforehand.

I have also ceased commenting on Youtube since Google forced us to be signed in to a G+ account to comment.

They have even admitted that this move INCREASED spam....

http://youtubecreator.blogspot.com/2013/11/an-update-on-youtube-comments.html

"Since we launched the new comments experience on YouTube two weeks ago, we’ve received a lot of feedback from creators on the increase in comment spam. While the new system dealt with many spam issues that had plagued YouTube comments in the past, it also introduced new opportunities for abuse and shortly after the launch, we saw some users taking advantage of them."

I wonder how long it will be before they clamp down on reciprocal G plussing?

I agree with you Gary on some of you points but you have to be logged in to post ON G+ and they already have an algorithm in place for such practices as we get many posts flagged up as spam each day that we have to delete
the worst mistake people are making is putting up duplicate posts to other communities all at the same time and without changing the intros

The man who set up Google Plus has resigned amid speculation the Google may pull back from promoting this.

Cheers

Google plus as a social media platform is pretty crap it doesn't have the easy look of facebook or the speed of twitter, too little too late IMO.

Guys

Two things, one, resigned maybe or sacked no one knows. Two, G+ is not social as you might think in the prospect way, more like this forum in a professional way.

I agree that it does not look good if you add in the fact that hundreds of coders have been moved away from G+ but again Google like to run things on a shoe string so their job may be done. The great thing about code it works without you have to stand over it. sure you need to keep a eye on it.

The fact is that G+ is Google project about telling real people from spammers. that adds juice to any content.

Respects

Ian

No Follow may not pass Page Rank but it does still pass link juice.

Spammers were the first to use fake Google ID's.

It's always the ordinary / little guys who suffer in Google updates. The spammers have the resources to recover much quicker so each update effectively hits the wrong people.
