Title: What % should we give to employees.
Post by: ShineySimpson on March 30, 2014, 09:24:58 pm
You don't really want to do them, your employee does.
He's using your van and water 50 50?

He's using his own van and equipment,
What percentage do you ask for?

He's using your kit but his own work? 50/50 but it will only last until he can get enough work to go fully on his own.
His own van and equipment doing your work? 50/50 also.
You'd be better off doing day rates for both imo though

I have thought long and hard about this for 5 years now.

This is my opinion; if someone is doing the work for you, and you want to keep them, they are good at their job, respectful to customers, doesn't mess about, smoke on customer premises, swear, or just be a general anti social person on work time; I'd be happy to pay them up to 70% of the day takings with the rest going to me as profit.

I'd only do this when I am fully booked. After all I want motivated workers, who do a good job.

Pole king what do you think is a reasonable day rate?

Pole king what do you think is a reasonable day rate?

That is the question!

I have 3 lads regularly sub for me.
One was on £200 a day but I've bumped him down to £150.
He was honest, said he needed the work so he'll stay until he's full.
Which is what he'd've done anyway. He wouldn't sub for me while he could get better money on his own.
Another was £130-I've bumped him Upto £150 so when these 2 work together, it seems fairer to me.
They work similarly.
These 2 are WFP. Own vans.
Last guy is trad only.
I asked him what he'd like to make for the day-he said £100.
I said ok.
I trust these lads. They work well. And they make me money.
I'm not gonna change their worlds with what I'm paying but I feel it's not a bad whack.
They seem happy.
I know I pay more than some. And less than others.
But I, and them, are happy.
IME-you're better off paying a little bit more to get good lads rather than paying the bare minimum and not being able to rely on them.

Happy to chat if you wanna give me a bell.

No.
Not anymore.
ATM the lads only sub for me on commercial but I'm considering getting one if them to sub domestic soon.
Once he sees the money, it may be prudent to give him a percentage.
Undecided at present.
