Title: Oops
Post by: Simon Gerrard on March 27, 2014, 07:14:50 pm
Did a carpet in a £1m house today, white carpet.
The last carpet cleaner didn't think to put protective strips under the furniture. Fortunately the customer didn't realise what he had done until she decided to rearrange her furniture. It was a massive lounge and would have cost an effing fortune to replace. Has he never heard of these?

Lucky escape I'd say

Another case of someone with lots of money, but still looked for the cheapest bafoon? Any real pro wouldn't have done that whatsoever. No real sympathies really  ;D

I remember once putting foils down and saying leave everything until it's touch dry. Went to the van to get my invoice book and when I came back she was moving chairs totally oblivious to the foils and what I'd told her. If I hadn't gone back in I could have had the same situation.

I cleaned some carpets a few years back, and a couple of oriental rugs,  I put the two rugs on the customers banister and told the customer to leave the rugs there until the carpet wss dry! What a waist of breath that was!  The next day she rang me to say there was a mark on the carpet from the rug! Give me strength!

There are also a lot of people that charge premium rates Kev that do not know what they are doing, it is not only the cheap boys. I would have thought that somebody in a property like that with that value of furnishings would be the last person to seek out a bargain service provider.

Yes your right Peter, I know what your saying. I was talking generally though of course. No doubt there are some newbie high chargers who do the same.

But from the other side of the coin, the amount of high end properties I have quoted for - thee have been a surprising amount that have openly said that they were looking for the cheapest quote! I even had one lady say that she thought I would be charging by the hour - min wage because she thought all cleaners were paid that way!

So even some these sort of places do have clueless owners.

P.s. I'm not saying ALL 'cheapest you could possibly get cleaners' won't do a good job.

Used to sub contract to a national company years ago.
Usual deal commission plus increased % on sales, I
always hated rich households, the tightest people out
there. Used to get the excuse "oh were changing it soon".
I cleaned lots like that many times over the years, same
excuse each time.
