Title: Today's Rant About SEO
Post by: ian harper on March 21, 2014, 07:58:21 am
Remember the old days of link exchange? Times change and we need to move with them.

As carpet cleaners we have to face the fact that our customers are not going to share links or our content. and for most of the content I read its the old rank name and number. that's just spam in my book, But

I read some really great stuff that should be shared. So who will share this great content and why?

It down to us and the reason we should share is that its a great example of how to sell our services.

We cant leave it to google to sort the good from the bad.

So why is so much bad? because these people are not exposed to good stuff. name rank and number is so base. By sharing great content many more carpet cleaners will see how its done and follow the example, notice i said follow and not copy.

Its so easy to take any idea and make it your our putting your own spin on it.

My interest at the moment is taking products that are sold to carpet cleaners and looking for the benefit to my customers and then selling a new service for that product. how many products do you have on you van that will answer a customers problem but you don't market it?

Stain protection is one great example where this all ready happens, its a product that both carpet cleaners see the benefit in extra income and the customer see the benefit for stain protection. now just apply that to stain removal products, odour products, and all the others

Come on guys lets start sharing and writing great content . Its the new ink exchange

BTW G+ will spider your content within seconds when you post links on G+ now think how powerful that is one hundred carpet cleaners post? remember its got to be good content and not some spammy advert with name rank number

Google + is a ranking factor in Google (one of many but appears to be given increasingly more importance by Google - funny that).

If you write an article and a hundred carpet cleaners link to it via their Google + accounts, your site (or wherever the article is hosted), should get a boost in the search engines.

so why should I put a link up to another carpet cleaners site?

especially if it is going to boost that site up the ratings... And who will find my site to see the link to click on it, if I am languishing down the bottom of the ratings in the first place?

I think he means like this

http://barnsleycarpetanduphosterycleaners.wordpress.com/2012/09/18/how-to-clean-your-own-carpet-with-a-household-cleaner/

It has been shared 184 times without pushing it which has placed me about 4th on google for free plus other articles .
And before you say why would you tell people how to clean their own carpets  dont bother.

From what i have gathered on here you either pay someone to do your seo or website and expect to be no1 , well seo is hard work and takes time , and experience .

someone said to me today he wouldnt pay £100 for a website he must be mad £ For £ they are the best investment available .

I can set up 4 or 5 in  a day with local numbers and have work coming in straight away for about £100 .

Take my advice, take a week off work and spend it on good content .

None of you will  though as most of you are stuck doing the same thing and expecting diffrent  results a sure sign of madness .

good luck

For the dummies amongst us, of which I am one, can someone please explain this in dummy language.
What is g+ for starters and if you were to write an article how does it get shared with others?
English for dummies answers please. Better still why not a step by step guide for dummies to do what has just been suggested ;D

Simon

A share button when clicked shares that page with all the persons fb friends so if i have 10 friends it goes to them if they share thats a 110 thats its been seen by . if that 110 have 10 friends each and they share it it will be seen by 1100 and so on most facebookers have over 100 friends.

so if you can provide good content that they want to share you can reach 1000s, thats how things go viral which means its reaching millions .

Same thing G+

Its great if you have a unique product to sell

ps you dont have one on your site

Ian, respec but... You really are a strange guy.

How many times have people told you they don't understand what you are saying? We all make spelling mistakes and typos but even if you scanned through what you have written once it would make a huge difference.

Your idea of being a marketing expert can't really be taken that seriously if you can't communicate or at least be flexible in your response to the same feedback over and over.

If you take time to craft your threads better I'm sure you will have more favourable comments.

I'm sure Ian means well, it's just that he has a deeper understanding of these things than the likes of me, who find it baffling. It would be good if someone took the time to put it all in plain English, in a step-by-step guide so more people can benefit from the information.
Perhaps even provide an example.

I'm sure he does mean well, but I'm not sure what he's on about and I do know a few things about SEO.

The first rule with anything like this is pick off low hanging fruit. I bet 90% of CC have not fully exploited the basic things that could give them the biggest return. Do you want the phone ringing or do you want other carpet cleaners to like an article you've written?

Creating content in the hopes of getting real links from real people is great, but in the world of LOCAL SEO there's a ton of other things you should have sorted first, like sorting out everything LOCAL that Google wants you to do to pass GO.

With Simon on this.....I know what I'm supposed to do but don't know how to go about it, website wise.
I'm lucky I'm with Vista Print who have a very good guide for doing your website and analytics but they can only do so much..

Now you're talking in riddles ;D
Can you explain, especially on the local point?
