Title: Questions on new RO Results?
Post by: Clever Forum Name on March 20, 2014, 06:24:17 pm
Purchased a 450 GPD from colins water.

It's only a temporary solution but the results are quite weird.

Input TDS is 360PPM

Output PURE PPM is 30PPM

Waste PPM is 920PPM

The tds meter is brand new and reads the same as 4 others.

The waste is just a slow trickle. The pure is a lot faster.

Doesn't sound normal to me?

Flushed for an hour same results.

Can you change the waste to pure ratio on these units?

Do you fit a valve or something??

i am surprised by that ,i use a unit by the same firm and flushed for around half an hour , tds was coming out at around five  so flushed for another half an hour and its coming out at 000 no resin  :)  water pressure is over 100 psi and the tap tds is normally 230 sometimes less and has been pretty constant for around two years now .like i said let it go and let it settle down hopefully  ;)

your flow restrictor will look like this http://www.ro-man.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=206 this needs to be put on your waste outlet after your membranes.

these ro s come  ready to go all you should have had to do is put the filters and ro membranes in , and as long as these have been put in correctly you should have had no problems, i think some of your membranes may of been incorrectly installed possibly

Pretty sure it was installed correctly.

Double checked everything and used Vaseline on the seals.

The pre filters are in the right order and the membranes could only go in one way.

I dont have a waste flow restrictor. What do they actually do, i know they create pressure. I am assuming the Ro machine produces less waste and more pure. But with it producing more pure i am assuming the TDS of the pure that is made will go up?

The only thing i think is weird is the pure is faster than the waste lol.

flow restrictor creates back pressure on your membranes you need to put one on really (i'm guessing its the standard 3x150gpd membrane type r/o)
not having one may increase your pure water output but the membranes wont last long and they could get damaged. you can get them for less then a tenner but make sure you get a 450gpd flow restrictor. Give ro man a bell there very helpful you can get one that lets you flush your system for about a tenner.

Yeah but if i fit one? Will it lower the TDS on the pure thats made bud?

Its only a temporary solution, can bin it after 3 months lol

you should have a flow restrictor on the unit, should look like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/140964800811?hlpht=true&ops=true&viphx=1&lpid=95&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=95&ff19=0

if you are not happy with this ro ian i would tell collins water products what is happening and ask their advice as they are pretty good service wise, i would think they will offer you a full refund or send another unit out to you.

Thats your flow restrictor.
Ive got a 450 from collins, left it to run a few hours and it worked fine after that...

What seems odd is your waste/pure ratio, also i would personally think your tds should be lower....

Have you given lee a ring?(from collins) hes a pretty helpful guy...

Edit : if you havent got it sorted later i'll take a few photos of how mines plumbed.
Although its simple enough as they're in parallel

Bugger i ordered one last night from ebay lol!!!!

Ah well only £6 lol

It is producing water now, so i will take some reading today.

I havent called him yet, as like i say is anything wrong?

Reemeber its just tap pressure and i have 360 - 400 PPM tap water?

With my math i should be producing 12TDS pure upwards ? lol
Title: Re: Questions on new RO Results?
Post by: Clever Forum Name on March 21, 2014, 08:14:01 am
Right

Pure rate has slowed down as has waste.

Pure is 25PPM and waste is 660PPM NON cloudy.

So i will let it produce all day and see what it does later

Thanks so far guys :)

Went to check it again and it's dropped to 20 PPM so that's good.

Decided to flush it for a few hours. Can't hurt lol

Leave it running mate, not on flush and it'll settle out after around 2hours (ish)

Think its a case of it getting out all the air and what ever else is knocking about when they're new

Been testing water production today and really happy with it.

TDS is around 15PPM

It's producing water at a rate of 1L per 1min 45 secs.

so 1000L in pretty much 24hrs.

Its only a temporary solution, but really happy with results.

Thanks to everyone that replied :)
