Title: Cleaning on gypsy sites, anyone else do it??
Post by: roundbuilder on March 17, 2014, 11:51:32 pm
2 months ago a lady pulls upto me in a range rover asking if i did site work where i replied yes thinking she meant builders cleans, anyway it turned out she meant a gypsy site where i said oh no i dont realy go into those areas, she said to me how desperate she was for a window cleaner as her windows on her caravan are to high to reach without a ladder, anyway long story short she ended up asking how much it would cost so i said £10-15 so she gave me a £20 note and said that should cover my time for a first clean!  I went in and cleaned her caravan, she told me she wants them doing every 2 weeks which i accepted as a frequency, 2 weeks later when i returned she said she had got me 5 other caravans to clean so i said ill do them all for £10 each, every time i have been there i have had more and more to clean and today the last 3 making 33 caravans every 2 weeks on the same estate taking me 4 hours to do.
I feel like a conman as they dont get dirty or anything in 2 weeks but they all insist i do them 2 weekly. An extra £660 a month all started from a simple £15 caravan clean.

I never would have thought that gypsy camps would be such good earners as i have always been predjudice against them thinking they are pikey scum but as luck would have it they realy appreaciate me and what i do for them! By far my best work i have this estate, i will be hitting a few other sites around my area and see what i can gain.

As crazy as it sounds my best customers are a bunch of pikeys!.

I did one job an a travelers house £60.00 and before he payed me he said "i have another job for you to do at my mates site"
So my alarm bells were ringing and said "i need paying before i do any other jobs"
He said " i have no cash until monday"
As expected i never got my money so now i would never work for them.

But your right 90% of them take pride in their caravans and there all cash rich so money wont be an option!
The only trouble would be not knowing how many your doing each time.

The ones that arnt home the neighbours end up paying and a few double up in the next 2 weeks and all is cash on day, no waiting about, it realy is brilliant work, never met such a close comunity like it in my life..
Mind you id hate to see what they would do to me if i crossed them lol.
Luckily they respect me for doing the simple job of cleaning ther windows, long may it continue.

I have quite a few customers who are Irish travellers.

Some are as good as gold and pay on the day or next time without any problems. Others, sadly, have let themselves and their community down by not paying.

It's all part of the game. There are good and bad in any community, but in the main, I am happy to have them as customers.

Good on you for being impartial, and not letting the typical stereotype of traveling people put you off.

I've done (legal) business before with gypsies - though not window cleaning.
Never had a problem.

On day you'll be working on the site, and your
Water will all if a sudden stop!!

You'll turn round to see what the problem is
And your van will have magically disappeared 🙀

It won't take them long to figure out you more
Money on windows than Tarmac on driveways

Very rarely see Pikeis here. They come over to nick caravans every couple of years. As for them starting to clean windows.... there's a guy on another forum who works windows, and he's a nice guy. So as said, some are OK, some aren't. Take 'e as they come I suppose.
As for lots of them taking up window cleaning, can't see them getting much work on domestics.

yalakedags?  ;)

We have exactly the same setup, but only on a couple.

Every 2 weeks on a Friday £10 a pop. They are spotless every time.

We have cleaned all the white work for like £25 before and it was so clean even before we cleaned them.

I would love a whole round like it lol

My brother is a mobile car valeter, he got quite a lot of work from a group of gypsy's near here last year. Said he would have no problems going back when/if they return. No problems re getting paid, or things going missing out of his van, and they were all very friendly.

i clean a reception area and boarding house on a holiday caravan park run by irish gypsies.they are absolutely fine with me.they even make me a coffee sometimes.good payers.no problems.

they were a bit stand offish when i first started cleaning on there but are ok now.

ive never been asked to clean their caravans though.

Iv had a few bad experiences with travellers in the past so tend to stay clear of them.
I know I shouldn't let a few bad apples put me off but I just can't trust them.

Who knows i could have a van out soley doing gypsy caravans, never met such home proud people in my life as them. Its crazey.

They can afford to have a window cleaner every day as they are exempt from paying road tax, council tax and rent.

Gypsy's are exempt from paying road tax? That's a new one. Would you mind linking the .gov website with details of this exemption, thanks.

or until one of the travellers realises there is a quick £330 to be made every 2 weeks OR

one randomly decides to become a window cleaner comes on here to learn a bit and sees mick has called them all pikeys  ;D

But until that day nice one mate you certainly know how to get work, I just dont have the drive anymore.

I too would be saying the same things about them nickin vans and equipment etc however its not like that at all when your there, its a nice country environment and so clean in there, they all have a chat with me feeding me sandwiches/rolls and making me tea and coffee the whole time im there! Verey friendly not how id imagine them being at all, just a bit hard to understand them talking which makes them sound rough as well as how they dress making them look rough.
I cant see gypsys starting a window cleaning round, they know the majority dont like them or trust them plus the men say its a womans job to do the windows but as a ladder is needed and the women dont want to go up a ladder then all the better for me. No domestic houses want 2 weekly round here ever yet all the gypsys do which defo says something about how home proud they are, i was verey shocked how clean and how everything was in place in there homes..  Messy bar stuards everywhere else though with there flytipping etc or out getting roudy when in the pubs with there groups.
As for them paying tax etc, who am i to giva a damn!! As long as they pay me and are nice and genuine then ill carry on providing a service for them.

Your right, If there's one thing they're good at its lulling you into a false sense of security.
I learned that to my cost.

In my area there is a cul-de-sac with 5 houses, and a caravan parked where a house (now demolished) stands.

They are all travellers (all the same family). This cul-de-sac looks quite intimidating, and I have been told that few people are welcome there. I was originally approached by another member of their family to go go there to clean the windows.

Over two years later I still clean all of them, including the caravan, and have never had any problems at all with any of them.

Actually, I had my tyres let down by one of the children there a couple of months ago. The young reprobate's dad sorted that out for me (and the lad presumably), and we had a good laugh about it.

In other words, treat them with respect and they are fine.

No, I've gone off the black stuff for a bit; it's more of a winter drink.
The best thing to put in Guinness is brandy but then it's hard to drink it without.
That would explain a lot of my posts.
