Title: Best day for canvassing
Post by: cornwallwindows on March 16, 2014, 02:34:46 pm
Hello.
I've just recently set up a new window cleaning business in Cornwall and would like to know peoples opinions on the best day/time to canvas.
I found that yesterday (Sat) was great, didn't get off one road as I was knocking and working at the same time, the weather was lovely as were the people, made £80 and did 10 houses.
As for today (Sun) I had a shocker, weather was cold, misty and damp. People didn't seem to want to know, is it because it's a Sunday and people just don't want to be bugged?
Personally I would have thought Sunday would have been a great day but clearly not around here!

Sunday is a great time to canvass but not too early so say from 10 am upto lunch 1 o'clock,  sat is good as well. And when the clocks go forward from 5.30 though to dark.

You may find it better to canvass only rather than stop and clean each one, that way you clean several at once during the week day when the majority are at work and canvassing is less effective.

Many factors come into play as to how many custys you pick up, just keep plugging away, and don't drift by making excuses not to go out

Thanks guys, I've only been doing it about a week and a half and got 40 customers so I think it's going ok, not sure of typical number though.
Personally (only with limited experience admittedly) I have found that if I knock on a door and they want it done then and there on quite a few occasions the neighbors have come out or Joe Bloggs has driven past asking if I'd do theirs or asking how much I charge.
Went out today but not until about 12 as I didn't want to disturb people on a Sun morning.

I find what's best is Sunday afternoon between 3-7.30pm.  Get some very interesting responses.

Good advice.

40 customers in such a short time. You may want to think about a canvassing business mate. Very well done.

Pick a day that will give you enough time to build up the momentum for canvassing.
I have found the 29th February is best.

I dont think he is taking the p out of the newbie, IMO sun afternoon is best for canvassing , everyone is more likely to be in at that time than any other time during the week (except weekdays in summer between 6.30 and 9pm).

The most important thing is DONT WORRY about their responses if they dont say yes , what does it matter to you how they respond, just smile say thanks for your time and knock next door.

Everyday is the best day for canvassing but some are better than others.
Doing something to promote you business is better than doing nothing.

Taking weekends and evenings to one side, try a professional type of estate (you know the 4 bed detached, built about 15 years ago)on a Friday daytime ... many of these types 'work from home' at the end of the week and more likely to be in than they would be on a Monday.

During the day your best hitting bungalows and council estates or big country houses where people are likely to be home.
Evenings your best hitting everyday sort of roads (i advise main roads and roads that are itty bitty with flats, parking restrictions etc as many window cleaners dont want to risk parking on these areas where as i do and hit my best hourly rates on these sort of roads, avoiding commuter areas as many arnt home until after 7(london area anyway).

Then weekends commuter areas are the best as many of these types are the easiest customers to gain when you find them home in a relaxed weekend mood.

Always have bingo sheets to hand to make note of houses where nobody is in or at least post a leaflet/card through them.

I think that when somebody says their is a window cleaner all ready working on a street the chances are most people are happy with the window cleaner .i would not waste my time knocking
