Title: Ever 'lose it' with the general public?
Post by: Dave Willis on March 16, 2014, 07:56:30 am
Never fails to amaze me just how rude and ignorant some people can be. I had a tricky job in the town centre yesterday morning so got there early and coned the area off which meant I could step back and work to four storeys in the couple of parking spaces I now occupied. People were trying to reverse back inside the cones  ::)roll

Finish the front then round the back to a private car park the only safe option was to park up, cone an area off and work within the cones using the van as protection from any numpties. Only drawback was that part of the carpark was blocked - no problem because it was nearly empty.

One arse whole sees me working - 45' pole up on the top floor.

"Excuse me - move your van your blocking the car park"
I glance over - just drive behind the red Micra - there's loads of room.
"just because you've got a brush in your hand doesn't give you the effing right to park where you like!"

The conversation went on with lots of effing and blinding from the both of us.

Ever happen to you?

I would go with the laughing , maybe a Bond villain type laugh .....

Or blow them a kiss

And if they call you something that rhymes with banker say ....

Shame your father wasn't - usually takes them a minute or two to work it out :-)

There are just some who hide behind the idea that they can say what they like to you and feel safe due  the thought that you cannot retaliate with out consequences. In many countries they would watch there Ps and Qs and say nothing.

Don't you just love our bypassers.
I work one town that gives me 10 times the grief of any other town.
I bollard the area and laugh at how many ignore safety.
I suggest to them it might not be a very good idea to ignore and that I must warn you you are in a hazardous area and I would prefer you not to place yourself or I in more of a risk than is necessary.
Most carry on and walk past. "oops did you get a little wet I think to myself as they walk past"
we all get them

Yes!!
I was working on a house and my hose was about 2inches over the next doors drive ( wich she wasnt in)
Just as i was finishing the job the last pulled on her drive and parked on my hose.
So i asked her politely to move a few inch forward.
She then bombarded me with a lot of abuse about how it was her land and im trying to make window cleaning look posh etc :o

So i simply said, either move it or i will put my toe rope on your car and drag it out of the way.

Some people just dont enjoy their lives

I keep a jack in the van.
One fella parked on my hose. Said I was in his space, cause it was outside his crappy little house (no drive or anything) the road was his and he wouldn't move till he was ready.
I had to go and collect a few so toddled off.
Funny enough, when I got back to the van he'd moved.

Only with road rage. but spent thenext week wondering if the police are going to call round. Wasn't worth the hassle but it felt worth it at the time. as for public on the street i ignore any potential awkwardness.

Had one today said "that's not your parking space so I replied I know I don't live here!"

I've got a property with a garage turned into a guest house which has a frosted window right on to the neighbours drive. I used to go in (about 5 metres) scrub it and out again.

One time the neighbour says I should ask permission to go on his drive and I apologise and say I didn't want to bring him to the door to ask for permission for about 20 seconds of being on his drive.

It's only polite he says; ok I say, can I go on your drive to clean next doors window?

No he says I want you to knock each time. I tell him to get a life and walk off.

About six months later I see him in his drive, stand at the gate and extend my pole to the window over his drive. He looks at me irritated and I asked him if he was going to call the police for using his airspace.

No reply.

Be careful.  A neighbour of a customer of mine once threatened legal action for alleged damage caused to her block paving by my water.  No, I'm not joking - it went to my insurer and dragged on for months.

Well technically he could cut the end off your pole where it overhangs the drive.  I think he has to throw it back though :)

I have a very short fuse. I was once helping a friend put a new wood gate up, the bloody drill kept stopping a And in a temper I smashed the gate to pieces with it lol. I spent the rest of the day fixing the bloody gate. I have had a few moment with public people. I think the best one was when cleaning a shop window a bloke walked past and spat on the clean window. The next thing I know I have chucked my bucket of water on his feet lol it was mid winter.

I have an office bloke i do every 8 weeks, even though I cone it off  people ignore it and walk through.

last time I was there a bloke walked straight past my cones and was about to walk right under my pole, just as he got to me I shouted as loud as i could, OH *** LOOK OUT!!!!

i almost wet myself at the look on his face. I bet he is more careful next time.  ;D
