Anyone know why the bearing has a slot in it?(http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1394736402_bearing.jpg)
Note the toothpick trick to get the brushes back in ;)(http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1394736458_toothpick.jpg)

its to save weight ;D

YES I DO

Is it some kind of "key" to stop the bearing case rotating?
-
Don't know doesn't seem to line up with anything. Wonder if it's to keep it clean.
-
Why did you strip your pump?
-
The slot might be to facilitate manufacturing.
-
haven't you worked it out yet :D
-
Nope ???
I stripped it down because it stopped the other day with no water and the controller flashing that pressure was reached. Changed the pressure switch and it still wouldn't start up. It did the same thing on a different controller. I wondered if the brushes were worn out or the bearing seized.
Couldn't see anything obvious.

I bet the problem is your controller, not the pump.
However, your post confuses me because if you have a controller, your pressure switch wouldn't be getting used, therefore it would be pointless to change it. The controller does the job of the pressure switch.
In fact I'm sure it's your controller here, especially if it all works after your fully charge the battery. The battery needs to be in good condition otherwise the pump controller stops play.
I binned mine in the end.

:) new controller. Battery power measured 12.8v new connectors too. Just put a brand new pump on this evening so we'll see what happens.
Controller has two lights - blue for when it shuts the pressure and red for when the pressure switch comes in to play. Red light was on even with the outlet pipe disconnected. Maybe there was a problem with the live wire (never found out).
I've got three pumps knocking about the garage now - probably nothing wrong with any of them ::)roll
Put a flojet on now - much heavier and sounds very different.
Forgot to add - the Spring controllers keep the pressure switch in the circuit whereas Varistreams take them out.

Lets see what Ian Sheppard says about this. But i can tell you i'm running a spring controller and i've by passed my pressure switch on my pump and it all works perfect.
