Post by: Ian101 on March 13, 2014, 06:42:23 pm
Went to price a job up this evening .. 3 or 4 bed house with conny ... tricky tight windows on some of them

"Well including the conservatory windows, all the frames, sills and glass it will be £18 a month"

hmmmm says Mrs Negotiator that's a bit dearer than the last one ! ... he was only £12.

"Let me guess ... he just stopped coming ?"

errr yes

"That's because he underpriced your house and it wasn't worth his while"

how about £14 ??

"NO ... £18 gotta cover my time"

ok well Ive got another man coming out to give me a price ... I will let you know. .... are you sure you don't want to lower your quote ??

I just smiled and walked off ...................... wait till I tell her its double for the 1st clean as there minging but not holding my breath on this one  ;D

well, when they are big houses with not so easy windows to reach that cuts the competition!! they're much less likely to get the old chap or others on the dole. I've rarely been offered big houses jobs when asked if I was prepared to undercut their current window cleaners. the few times I was it was when their previous window cleaner had broken something and denied it . But they still agreed to my higher prices when I explained I had insurance , wasn't rushing and would come back if they were not happy with the job.  I have no interest having someone haggling for a couple of quids! sorry I don't live on the streets. having said that maybe working in london make me feel less desperate!

4 bed houses with conny?all mine are £20 a pop.good if you get a run of them.2 an hour £40.although  ive also got pockets of 3 or 4 of these types of houses without conservatories at £16 a pop.can do 3 an hour so £48.its took me years to get these compact though.

most people who live in the larger houses where i work never even question my price.extra work usually comes from word of mouth and recommendation though.quite a few customers have been messed around by crap window cleaners in the past and stick when they find a good one even if  more expensive.

i do occasionally get the odd potential customer who wont pay my prices but its not very often.
