Post by: Flash.. on March 11, 2014, 04:24:46 pm
I am upgrading from my Merlin RO, anyone got one of these or have any thoughts on this system, it looks pretty good to me?

That looks rather ambitiously priced for something that's pretty basic.

I make up something with a 4040, three DI vessels (one for filtering with charcoal pellets, two for DI) and an input filter (to get rid of any charcoal that may get through) with an inline TDS meter, a bag of resin and a bag of charcoal for a similar amount.

However, if you're prepared to pay for something to plug in and go, it's probably fine.

I've got that system, bought it years ago when Neil owned RO-Man.  Paid about £400 I think.  Heavily modified and still going strong, but at the end of the day you're just buying the housings and pipework - filters been changed umpteen times since and membranes a few times too.

As Vin says, for a 'plug in and go' it's pretty good.  Booster pump (very noisy cast aluminium pump head all in one with the motor) only lasted about a year and a half.  Been using the Clarke one since - quieter and more reliable, even with several people drawing their supply from it we're only on our second Clarke in about 5 years

Never had an issue with just the two prefilters, one sediment and one charcoal - membranes still last about 3 years.

looks expensive to me,and complicated loads going on with pipes etc,to justify price,I thing you could probably DIY that for £400
I have a fitted system in my van,I'm sure the guys who DIY set ups will help you

second one down .

I'm sure you could ask for twenty inch filters rather than the ten inch for only a few quid more.
