Title: do custies think we're stupid!
Post by: mufcglen on March 06, 2014, 03:05:27 pm
had a monster farm house to clean before christmas and it hadnt been done in a long time judging by the usual spiders eggs buggs etc.
contacted her a month later to be told her regular windie was back which sh never mentioned before so i just left it as i dont steal anyones work, i didnt believe her anyway!
today shes txt me asking if i can go round cleaning her windows as a one off as her windie has broke his foot lol, personally i dont think she has a window cleaner whatsoever but ive text her back saying i can fit her in after ive done my regulars and its now double the price for one off's and suprise suprise shes not got back!
im quite lucky that this is the only meser i got at the moment but as im still building my round i presume i'll gt more of these fools!

Yes, some think we're stupid. In some cases, they're right too.

No it's not rocket science, but it may as well be, deionization, reverse osmosis, and all the other bollox I didn't understand when the ladders were put away.

I'm not stupid enough to work on a monster farm. It sounds very scary.
I bet one of the monsters got free and broke the other window cleaner's foot.
Give it a miss.

It takes me back to a cheeky customer I had once who booked an appointment call!
I turned up after giving a price of £45 to do a clean of windows in and out. 35 miles round trip may I add.
I asked several  questions before arriving in regards to structure and condition of the windows.

Well I must be stupid for going as I turned up to the ex legal secretaries home to find a downtrodden farmhouse with moss holding the pains of glass in 3 windows. Anyway I explained I could clean all but 3 windows due to safety.
Her attitude was do them all or not at all.
Now I replied I must insure the safety of my employees and it would be far to dangerous to clean those windows.
I explained I would need the payment for attending and she told me she would not pay.

I spread the word to other window cleaners about her and I know she hasn't got a window cleaner as she called one of my other numbers 6 months later. I laughed at her.
Bless her

I quoted for a big job not so long ago and squared all the terms and conditions away and planned a date for the first clean.

When we tipped up the lady owner sent one of her staff to try changing the job spec to more in her favour.  I asked if I could speak to the lady owner, the member of staff got funny, so we got in our van and drove off.

Some folk are just not all there.

For the above reasons, this is why this year I've been saying to every new customer, first clean, EOT or one off 'we do require full payment in cleared funds before clean commencement'
All but 1 so far has been fine with it.
The 1 that wasn't? Suspected messer anyway.
Works a treat.
Last new job was yesterday. £20 paid in cash, said I'd be there on Monday.
He was fine with it.

YES i got stung this week new custy asked me to clean her windows and could i call every 4 weeks yes i said asked plenty of questions to make sure she was not going to be a messer .

Anyway they were really dirty frames probs took me twice as long she comes out and pays and after a quick chat i said see you in 4wks ,

NO i only want them doing every 3-4 months WHAT i say you i agreed to a 4 week schedule so basically you have deceived me i say if you had been honest i can tell you i would have charged you lot more .

I will give you a call next time i want them done she says So i just walk off .

I dont always charge extra for first cleans but i am seriously considering an extra charge for every 1st clean . Mike

I mean no disrespect to you, but its not the customer thats the fool. They're probably the type of person that doesn't want to commit to a regular service. I personally have no problems with this type of customer, you just need to get paid accordingly. When pricing a new job i charge double, at least. I don't actually say its double i just give them the price. Then i offer a reduction for a regular service if they want it. What i won't do is clean a mess up for a monthly price for someone to say...thanks we'll call you again.
I understand you're starting off and are keen to get customers on your books so want to entice them and not scare them off with a high initial clean. Stick to your guns for three reasons.
1) if they want them doing they'll pay
2) if they want a regular service afterwards they'll happily agree without persuasion.
3) if they don't want a regular service then you've been paid correctly for what you've done.

I've yet to meet a customer who has not understood you want more money for something that is absolutley filthy. And i've also yet to meet a customer who says there's no window cleaners round where they live, there usually is and theres a reason they're asking you and not them.
Thats my take on it anyway.
