I have had a small knocking noise on my van for a while.
I had a mechanic fix a ball joint and track rod ends, still knocked.
So we changed a top engine mount, still knocked.
Then tonight i went to leave my drive and i heard a Big Crunch and then smoke, looked underneath and my fan belt was touching the metal engine frame.
My top engine mount bolts had sheered! And engine was hanging on.
Few days off for me it looks like ???

enjoy your days off ;D

NEVER use your first mechanic again. Did he not check everything first?
-
He didnt know there was a knocking noise, i asked a different garage to put it on the ramps and he found it was ball joint and rod ends... I just assumed that would of solved it, so told my other mechanic to fix them.

What van do you have h20?

Nissan primastar 2003 90thousand miles.
Quite shocking the fact that engines are only held in by 3 brackets! I could if been doing 60mpg when it fell

That's crazy.
Hopefully it's not too costly for ya.

lucky it didnt smash the gear box adn that as it went, a lot of engines have a subframe undernieth which while is good, takes about 2 hours to take off to get to anything lol
-
Currently sat getting 2 snapped bolts drilled from the engine thats £60 and a few new bolts £5.00 ... Then it should be fixed.
So it should be rather cheap to fix
-
somebody didnt tighten up /glue the bolt threads when renewing the top engine mount it seems

I'm sure that should be high tensile bolts. If they have been drilled out then I expect they are mild steel. Could be why the sheared off.

60 mpg from a primastar? No chance.
