Hi I am looking to buy my first pole and was going to buy a gardiners clx, now they are not in stock so my next choice was an ionics grafter. What is the weight of the clx with brush head and hose and is it worth me waiting until they are in stock. Does anybody prefer the grafter.
-
Before I bought my clx it was out of that and the facelift Phoenix, I might try one of those next, check them out of window cleaning warehouse.
I bought my clx22 with everything for £130 but I believe they've gone up in price now?
-
clx definitely out of those two , i had a grafter and it was next to useless.
-
If you can afford it go for the SLX it is such a great pole

IMHO a first pole should always be a hybrid pole such as a CLX as the unintentional abuse your first pole gets IMO , Should not be inflicted on Carbon pole such as SLX as you could wreck it in no time at all .
Once you have mastered your technique then i would go for an SLX , Same goes for brushes as well get a Superlite with a brush bumper not an Xtreme otherwise you might wreck it in days not weeks . Mike

I disagree with your reasons- the SLX is every bit as, if not more robust than the CLX. There's nothing you could do to a CLX that you couldn't with a SLX IMO.
However, using a CLX first would make you appreciate a SLX more.

SLX all the way.

Agree
-
i agree , the slx is in my opinion more robust and more resistant to wear than a clx , its down to cost really , when your starting out and don't have much money to spend or are not sure if you will stick at it.
i started with a grafter , then clx ,then slx with a glyder40 given to me as a replacement for the grafter which is still in my garden with four broken clamps.
buying an extreme next month and will keep slx as a spare.

save up a little more and get the slx if you can , your arms will thank your at the end of the day

Very little difference between the SLX22 and CLX22 so dont be too worried
if your budget doesn't stretch.
You wont get better than the CLX for the price.
-
Thanks all, CLX it is then, I will find out how long the wait will be.

I am not saying that the SLX is not robust but a novice who does not care for the pole properly cleaning etc and just in everyday use catching it against roof extensions etc .
I am speaking from experience i was so caught up with cleaning the windows properly and finding and mastering a correct technique and every thing that goes with converting to WFP that my first and second pole took abuse .
I would barely clean them just chuck them in the garage at the weekend and not be to bothered at them at all , totally different with SLX and it was good to work my way up to an SLX . Mike

at the end of the day any pole is going to be making money rather than waiting, so why not pay a bit of extra money or the slx
-
Slx no more said....!!
-
Brodex then upgrade to slx or extreme
-
jeez, clx or grafter?, and the masses as usual shout SLX ! :D
No experience or opinion on grafter, BUT regardless of which gardiners, go for one for the simple reason of versatility with the quick lock, change brushes, jets, goose necks etc. with ease, quick and easy versatility with one pole ;)

I have both and I use both.
The advantage of the grafter is you use as many or little sections as needed. It's a no nonsense straight forwards pole but a bit bendy at height and what ever is said on here, Ionics after sales service, like Gardiners, is really excellent for advice and problems.
The clx is a bit lighter and better at height as it's less bendy but it doesn't come apart so when doing lower work, you have to use all the sections.
If you can afford both, buy both, but if are a bit short on cash, buy the clx.
-
Buy a Tucker!
;D ;D ;D
Just kidding that's all there was when I started.
SLX, a thing of beauty
-
i bought a CLX22 a few years ago after using glass fibre streamline and brodex hydra poles.
I THOUGHT ID DIED AND GONE TO WINDOW CLEANING HEAVEN! ;D ;D ;D
i couldnt believe the difference in weight, closed length and ease of use!
they are a good budget pole if your just starting out.if you use a light brush like an extreme on the end the bend wont be too bad fully extended.
its false economy though once you ve built your business up and poling most days for 5-7 hours esp if you have lots of awkward windows to reach at full stretch as the more expensive SLX will last twice as long if looked after properly and slightly more rigid.
-
I have just bought a grafter 24ft as my clx was dead. I only got it as a supplier is a 20 min drive away. To be honest I quite like the pole and have to say the brush has a far better cleaning than any gardiner brush I have used.
-
Just to clarify...
The CLX pole can come apart if needed despite having joint-stops fitted. If it is a pre Smart-Clamp pole then you would need to undo and remove the lever arm, hold the clamp jaws apart with your thumb and then slide the section out as needed. If it is a Smart-Clamp fitted pole then you would only need to undo the bolt adjuster by a few turns and then slide the section out if needed.
-
Hi woods cleaning, do you find the grafter much heavier than the clx. Cheers

I agree about the customer service , very very good .
My grafter kept breaking clamps and actually lost me jobs when i started out , they eventually sent me a glyder 40 which at the time was double the price of my pole .
Not sure what was going on with the clamps but they were awful.
-
Neither,get the SLX
-
Not much but at these weights if it's too heavily then go get a office job lol
-
Only 160 grams difference in weight between clx and slx I believe? So put an extreme brush on the end of it and the weight difference matters little. However CLX been out of stock for ages.

Those original clamps were badly designed and made. There's an ionics supplier 10 minutes from me and on about my tenth or so visit for yet another broken clamp, he changed it for a brand new pole.
Since then, no problems at all.
-
SLX £238.80, CLX £151.20, weight difference 160 gram, as for longevity if you look after the hybrid then no problem. I could see the benefit if there was a huge difference or you are a rich window cleaner who's got nothing better to do with his money. I'd sooner spend the saved money on a few brushes.
-
hi guys im reading this with interest as my clx22 has been great the last week ive used it but fully extended its got a bit of a wobble to it which ive found can help when scrubbing but when some of you guys are going on about the weight difference which doesnt sound much but is the slx much stiffer when extended than the clx?
-
Cant comment specifically comment on the CLX but i top quality carbon pole as the SLX against a Hybrid pole like the CLX .
Then their is a vast difference in rigidity when extended used Carbon poles for over 2 years now and the difference is almost beyond comparison to a Hybrid .
But the SLX is the best in terms of the whole design and build coupled with a Gardiners resi-neck and Xtreme brush it simply cant be beat. Mike
-
what would you guys say are better out of the slx and the phoenix x, the slx works out cheaper for the price and you get a neck and brush with that as opposed to just pole but wondered what you guys who have used both think?
