I paid for a years advertising with yell.com last year which to no surprise i did not gain any work from it.
When they called up about the renewal i told them i would like to cancel my account with them, Got talked in to giving it an extra two months trial free of charge, Two months has passed and not a single enquiry via yell. So i call up again today and ask them to take the paid listing down and i will not be willing to pay after these two months. Now sir i cannot cancel your account as its a 12 month contract, i did not sign any contract or agree to continue the contract. Could i cancel the direct debit and not pay them or could this affect my credit rating or could them send debt collectors round etc?
Would be grateful for any advice on this situation.
-
i'd ask them for a copy of the contract you didnt sign or agree too!
just cancel the direct debit and your certain you didnt agree to anouther 12 months.
-
Stop the direct debit and ring them to tell them you have.
Ask them for a copy of the agreement and a copy of the transcript of last phone call.
I would not worry as there will be someone along on here shortly to help us all get more work :o

had problems myself, cancel direct debit, send email explaining what happened, after about the third email ::)roll they will get the picture and f@cckk offf

All yell contracts are electronic so you tick a box. If you haven't ticked the box on the renew email they send out then you should be ok. Having said that we have had an advert for 8 months and had tons of work from it. Suppose it works for some and not others.

They are a pain in the ASS!! Never known a company pester people so much! >:(
YELL is dying & has been for some time.

yellow pages - waste of money
yell.com - waste of money
why would u waste time going to yell.com when you can just search on google.

Had a guy on the phone today from yell.com giving me a real hard sell to
Advertise with them, eventually got rid of him but he is going to phone me
Back in a week to see if I have changed my mind. Think I know what answer
To give hin now! Good info for newbies. Thanks guys

The guys on the phone who try and sell you advertising are the biggest liars !
They promise to get you so much work, you better be ready for all the enquiries ( I didn't get a single call )
You would be better burning your money ( at least you will get the benefit of the warmth ) !
-
I used them yeas ago for a little advert.. they kept ringing and ringing me to advertise for the next year ahead.. i dodged the calls.. in the end they had the cheek just to come to my house and try and sell me it on the doorstep ??? took a while to get rid of them off my door as well. Had to say am leaving the trade in the end to get rid so wouldn't need any advertising
-
The best way to get shut of them is to tell them that you cannot take on any more work & you can't cope with the amount you already have- leaves them instantly redundant!
-
best to be blunt with them "im not interested " they usually go away then . another proffessional pest is The Foresters
-
i think nath jones on here said it best when he said your better off burning your money
-
I agree you might as well just burn it or put it in the bin lol. I didn't click the renew button on any new contract so i will cancel the direct debit and ask for proof of me signing etc they wont have a leg to stand on. Cheers for all the advice lads i appreciate it :)

I signed up to yell last week for a year @£20 per month and the first morning my advert went live (Tuesday) I got a call and a new £10 monthly clean. Not singing its praises but I am still in the honeymoon period and if custy stays will have paid half my years subscription.

Give it a month and see how many calls you get mate

Someone should start a poll - "When was the last time you personally used Yell.com"
There's enough people on this forum to give a fairly accurate reading - - I reckon the result would be less than 10% of forum members in the last year. Why go to Yell when google give better answers faster and includes ALL the businesses, not just the ones that pay?!!

That should be the stock answer to their sales people,
"so your the same as Google but I have to pay?"

The Poll is up guys

Yell is free to use and a listing is free.
-
Don't waste your money, you're far better off spending it on SEO to get as high on google as possible.
-
Yell is free to use and a listing is free.
Exactly i have a full FREE LISTING on Yell.com with pics and everything and it does not bring in any work .
BUT by having a FREE LISTING it helps to a point for example , I live in a town called Ferryhill and cover local areas so if like Yell aka Hibu put into Google window cleaners ferryhill instead of what i would put window cleaner ferryhill .
Then the Yell way makes them rank higher on Google than my site but in my case my site is within the Yell listing , So how bizzare is it that Yell contact me and tell me that going with a paid add will help my business .
I simply tell them i use one of the best website designer/builder's and with a simple phone call i could rank higher than them in every search if i wished .
If you want to spend a wedge of money then get a Nathanael Jones to build you an AWESOME WEBSITE his words not mine but he is right SO GO TO www.avondhu-internet.com . Mike
