Title: Landline or Mobile
Post by: Mike #1 on February 23, 2014, 08:54:33 am
I have always had a land line number and mobile on business cards and advertising as it has always been normal practice to have a land line when in business .

But i have noticed a few lads have mobile only , My wife and i probably use our land line about 10 times a year and may consider ditching land line in the future .

Now is this bad idea  for business really curious on other peoples opinions on this . Mike

I have needed services in the past. A flyer has come through the door advertising that very service. Just a mobile number on it so promptly thrown in the bin.

Probably pikeys.

When I first started out wife was working for prison service so for obvious reasons giving out landline number was a big no. Best thing about mobile is that you can put it on silent at night or weekends, Have had one people ringing in early hours and sunday afternoons

I like to use a local number because (only in my opinion), it has more of a local, friendly, small family business feel to it; and that's the impression I like to give.

You can get local numbers 0208 , 0207 ect straight to your mobile and the customer don't know and different.

Thanks for that Paul will look into in more detail , Currently in a contract with BT and if i can have my local area code that might put to rest some of  my concerns with not having a Land Line number .

As mentioned above i do like having the land line within my advertising etc as it gives customers a certain impression and as Soupy said any flyers with just mobile number would get binned .

Thanks for replies so far lads . Mike

if somebody Really wants you, theyll ring a mobile.   i dont want anybody getting in touch who is on the fence about getting a regular window cleaner

iv been mobile phone  only since i started  6 yrs ago and i clinch the sales by answering every call or text enquiry straight away.

unless you have your calls to your home phone redirected , which costs you , you will be losing sales for sure by having relying on a  home phone

I do have a landline for personal use and broadband but the virtual line is for business use only its is web based and has nothing to do with  a land line basicly the customer calls my 01322 or 0800 number and it goes straight to both my mobile & my wifes mobile.

But it is an incoming number only i can't call out using the virtual numbers.

even if you have no landline and live in a caravan in the middle of a field you can still have a virtual landline.

Give them a try if you don't like it just give them 30 days notice

£2 per month, and I can divert/un-divert as many times as I like and to as many different numbers as I like.  If I'm out, I divert to my mobile, if I'm home I have it direct to the landline.  If I don't want to be interrupted I divert it to my wife's mobile

I think it is now common practice to communicate by mobile for all services etc,
and with the amount of texting that goes on , i cant see the point of a landline, i dont think it makes me look less professional

I've always use both a landline & mobile number that works well for me. Mind you I do state on my site if I'm busy then please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I very rarely answer either phone if I’m busy as that is why they invented answer phones after all. ;D
