how do you go about getting a stand pipe, do you have to rent them from the water board or can you get them from ebay and buy a licence to use them from the water board. welsh water is my local company.
-
Ring your water company, they will talk you through it. I do it through a third party because it's cheaper, the water board even pointed me towards them. They deliver and pick up everything then just bill you, or......
You could just get one off eBay and not get caught.
I think it's maybe a £5000 fine, more if you break a fire hydrant, more if you break a fire hydrant and then there is a fire and no water for the fire service.

This costs a small fortune with South Staffs.
I forget the exact amount but there's a deposit (£350 or so), an extortionate hire fee (£50 per week) and then the metered water. It hasn't been that long since I last asked but the trauma mst have blanked it out!
I once got caught using an unmetered pipe on a building site. The site had authorised it, that turned out to mean a lot! Water saw it in use whilst visting site and had a kind work in my ear. Said in first instance I'd generally be looking at confiscation but depending on who and what mood they were in it could be court too.
Bottom line was I haven't risked it since.

I had two days usage, cost me about £80-£90 all in, hire, water pickup, delivery. I think that's fair, it was for a large commercial job. Tbh if it was for domestic work I wouldn't bother but I priced this in so it was fine.
There will be loads on here that don't bother paying. It's your choice.

Yearly fee up here, un metered and you get a nice blue and purple scottish water standpipe too ;D
-
Does anybody know roughly how many ltrs a minute you can get from a standpipe please?
-
Enough to fill wellies in no time ::)roll It depends on what size pipe you have and the water pressure in the area but its quick
-
Well after looking what thames water charge for a low usage lic then metered small 22mm standpipe rental (not optional) works out over a grand plus vat per year :o
I will be passing on that one methinks ;D
-
thanks you for the replies, seems it can be quite expensive then !.
-
Unless I did alot of commercial pressure washing jobs like street cleaning etc which I don't then no in my case being with thames water it would not be viable for me to fork out that sort of money upfront.
Best you contact your own water company to see how much they charge.

Isn't there a drought about due?

;D...tell that to the ppl with flooded homes/ businesses and still using boats to get about as I'm sure they might disagree somewhat ::)roll
