Title: best pole for ground floor?
Post by: alank on February 07, 2014, 08:42:12 pm
what is the best pole for ground floor windows? my daughter is starting to help out a bit she is finding it difficult to manage cleaning upstairs windows using an slx 18 but can manage the ground floor fine, would it be better to get a pole more suitable for ground floor only or maybe get an extreem 18 and then let her progress to doing some upstairs windows as she gets more confident and able to control the pole at height?

best to take a clx10, a clx4 can be too short sometimes, even on ground floor.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a Gardiners pole for ground floor work and other makes are actually available and what's more, they do the same job.

Almost and short but light pole will do with the right adapter. An old unger pole etc.

I was talking to another window cleaner a short while back and he bought an Aldi brush, took the brush head off and screwed the wfp brush head onto that. Total cost - 99p.

It's not a question of being tight.

It's about not just buying this or that because it's made by a, b, or c and to my way of thinking, I use what does the job the way I want to do it and to the extent I need and sometimes I buy the because of the name and sometimes I don't.

I don't over spend and waste money and neither do I always go for cheap just for the sake of it and I always look to maximise profit.

fair enough but i think you can at least spend a bit more for your daughter and have a decent pole rather than a broom from Aldi!

A decent pole doesn't only mean Gardiners unless of course you buy the name first and then select what is suitable from what's available and yes, I do own a Gardiners pole as well as an ionics one.

A decent pole is one that does the job, broom handle or otherwise.

I don't use a broom handle myself but why is a broom handle that does the job perfectly not a decent pole?

Yes, ah but, Simon, what I did was to get my lettraset out and stamp 'Gardiners Super Dooooper Extreme SLX' all over the broom handles and not only did they no longer suspect me, they were suitably impressed that I had such professional WFP poles even though I had a van full.

Yup, the opportunities are almost endless. I see the next boom and bust scenario being bought about by Aldi 99p broom handles.

ps

What I'll be doing next is to work out a way to stick Gardiners clamps on each broom handle and I'll flog them off as cheap imports from China.

It'll be a world first, the first genuine Gardiners non extendable WFP broom handle with genuine Gardiners clamps.

I cut Alex in on it so I'm sure he won't mind and I'll even send him an email.

Not quite as cheap but I've done the same with an old Tesco threaded broom handle.  It won't reach every ground floor window but it gets most - and it's better for tight spaces.

I wouldn't recommend a clx 4 for ground work. The handle is very very very tiny (diameter) After a days work your hands can be quite sore as the diameter is so tiny.

I am very disappointed nobody has made reference to daughters and poles  :-X  ;D
