He is about 7 miles from me.
Ouch.
-
That is pretty grim, but could have been a whole lot worse.
No way would i be doing this job without wfp!
-
Christ he was lucky :o
-
Save a life.
Go WFP.
:)

Its called taking safety precautions.
Its like riding a motorbike and not leathers.
If its on the market for YOUR safety, then use it!

if you use a ladder correctly .then you will be fine.. ladder accidents are caused by people taking uneccesary risks. imo ive used ladder all my working life.. im fine .however ive had a few car accidents . still driving though
-
Why why why
Why get up ladders when there is wfp out there????
I just can't comprehend it.
-
For one thing, you can't trip over a ladder.
-
dont get me wrong mr trippy . i generally use wfp but occsionally i use ladders .on builders cleans etc.sometimes wfp isnt quite up to it .. i feel fine on one . mind you ive seen some numptys on ladders in my time. it doesnt surprise me to see accidents .. training is key , i say that because sometimes ladders are needed.

There's always a risk of falling. No matter how many precautions you take.

It says in the article that he was stood on the top rung:
"Jon was on the top rung and about to start cleaning an upstairs window in Grove Gate, Staplegrove, shortly before 10am on Saturday when the ladder slid from underneath him."
I reckon that must be wrong because only a total idiot would stand on the top rung.

thing is the wfp guys who bang on why why why are only doin so because they know that laddermen in their area are serious competition .
if you have, for example, 3 laddermen in a small town and you are a new start up wfp firm you will have a heck of a job to get a round going , whereas if they were 3 wfpolers you will slot in nicely

That's nonsense. It implies that the new starter will have to take work from the other windies which isn't what happens. Generally, work comes from those that don't have a wc.

Disagree pal.

its a competitive world. the vast majority of windies are still on ladders (not on this forum and not on the net for the most part ) and if for some reason they all stopped overnight, the wfp guys would suddenly cream it up- be honest with yourselves, you know thats what its all about

Again, I disagree.

first thing i thought when i read the story is had he got spikes on his ladder? i doubt it
this time of year you must have spikes fitted as the ground is so very greasey. i have spikes on year round, it increases safety no end
im talking as someone who has fell the full drop (before i knew spikes existed
-
haha!trad guys just cant compete with a GOOD WFP window cleaner! ;D ;D
on topic he s a very lucky guy.it could have been so much worse for him.
ive fell off a few times.both times it was user error/complacency. ::)roll
i still use ladders occasionally and even a bit of trad work(ground floor usually) ;D

Hate to agree but think you're on the right track.
WFP still has a long way to go to gain acceptance in some areas.
I pass the Dumb Steeple most days on my way to work. For those who don't know it is the focus point of the LUDDITES !!!!
And believe me some would rather poke their eyes out with rusty needles than have there windows cleaned with a bog brush on a stick!!!

i can genuinely say i am more than happy for everyone to stay trad
less competition
If i was to be asked by anyone starting out whether to go trad or wfp
and i was forced to give a honest answer, i would say yes defo learn
learn to use a blade it will come in handy but long term wfp is the way
to go,easier on the body, safer and financially it makes sense.
But hey why should i care, the more that stay trad locally, the more
i get the fascia and con cleans that give me£40-£60 a hour that they
are unable or dont want to do.
Its all good baby!!! :)

More to the point, they don't believe you.
When I first started out there was a guy on ladders leaving a Victorian 3 bed semi with two bays. As we chatted he said to me "who's going to pay more than a fiver for that?". My thought was who would do that for less than £15.
