Title: renting out round advice
Post by: stuartb on February 05, 2014, 02:24:14 pm
Can anyone help,

I've a round comprising of 201 customers. I've approximately 80 customers in one area and 121 forty invoicesy. Im retraining and I won't be able to work for several months. I'm unsure exactly how long, id say 5-9 months and im thinking of renting out my round. Its worth about £2350 and completed approximately every five and a half weeks.

I'd like to take the business back when I've retrained.

Is this possible rent out my business and not be ripped off. I can provide uniforms equipment and van. Id also want my invoices used so it remains my business.

Is this possible?
Any help appreciated.

Get everything in writing. Use a solicitor.

Whoever rents it pays you come rain, wind or shine, whether they do the cleans or not.

Contract to say that they replace anyone lost for any reason whatsoever.

£2350 and it takes you 5 and a half weeks to get round?is that right?

if it is its a very poor paying round meaning its around £420 a week.unless you are very slow! ::)roll

i can do that amount in 2 and a half weeks mate.

No Dazmond it doesn't take 5.5 weeks to complete my round. I choose to spread the cleans over that period as five and a half weeks (a good bit more than a calendar month) goes down well with customers - bang on a month too quick and two months too slow. As the business gains new customers they are slotted into the free time. This system works well for a growing business. Thanks for your help though Dazmond...much appreciated! If only we could all be as amazing as you :)

Yes it is possible if you can trust the subbie.  I've subbed work from people before supplying my own vehicle and water.  I did it on a percentage basis.  It only stopped because the contractor moved the goalposts.  It wasn't his fault though - nor mine.  A change in circumstances meant he had to start doing things differently which meant a bit less money for me. I felt that I couldn't drop any more.  We ended the arrangement on good terms and stay in touch.
Which percentage to aim for is hard for me to say as my arrangement was different to yours.  However, from experience, it's the hidden things that you don't anticipate that can trip you up.  e.g. how long before payment made, what happens if customer cancels, who takes the hit on a bad debt, do you withhold some money until the very end, what happens if the subbie acquires new work while he's doing yours (e.g. whose is it?, what arranmgement for paying him for it if you want it?)    All of these were potential obstacles at some point but they often aren't things you think of beforehand.

Thanks for that information and advice Dave...appreciated. I like the idea of renting the round out but I've a feeling that, from the way I feel and from what you have said it could go wrong and I'll end up ripping my hair out with stress. I'm not sure how well I could manage this potential situation - something I'm not practised in. Thinking of perhaps keeping the business, at least for a while longer. It is growing on its own without canvassing by about twenty five customers every 5 months so its healthy. If I didn't have to collect payments it would be so much better I think.
Thanks again for the info
