Ive had the phone call confirming my new van is written off.
On the plus side Ive got them to give me £6500 which is it original cost.
Now then, van shopping tomorrow. My options are a Caddy 50000 miles, another Berlingo 50000 miles, or a transit 80000 miles.
Hmmm...

But depends on the damage.Have you got the damage report?

It's worth asking though.
What would you say if the insurance co said you can have it for a grand?
Say it costs you a grand to put right (just an arbitrary figure)
You may be back on the road for £2k.
Think how much quicker that could be paid off than £6.5K...
I'm not saying go for it, just ask the questions...

I see.
Thing is it def couldnt be repaired for a fat amount of money, so take into consideration the loss of earnings and hassle as a result from me getting it repaired, id rather spend the money and not have to worry to be honest. (plus, it didnt have a side loading door, which got annoying )

Ye buy it back and then when u need to take it vosa for a vic check n they tell u the chassis bent....uve spent all that money repairing a unrepairable car

Defo wont cost 2 grand matey,
A decent painter will want a grand for just painting it, then uve got the panel beaters job +labour and parts.
Then theres vosa vehicle identification test to check ur not ringing it, takes a month to get booked in there,
A lot of messing around for not a lot of result, ide say starting again is going to be much easier, buying back the car is only worth it if the car has sentimental value to you eg old family car, or if its a car thats worth 30k or more second hand
-
be worth checkin the reg out in about 4 months time ,see if its back on the road . you can do that on the govt roadtax site
last year i blew an engine up in my 13 yr old berlingo and stripped it for bits for me new van and a scrappy hauled it away . lo and behold , its now back on the road as its been taxed ,i was surprised
or has it been ringed....

A VIC check dose not check the workmanship of a repair or wether the chassis is bent, they only check to make sure that the vehicle is legitimate, that it isn't a cut and shut or the vin number has been removed to use on another vehicle.
If you had the van repairs the body shop would check the vehicle to make sure every thing is straight
