Title: Spray render algae probs
Post by: capn sparkle on January 25, 2014, 04:47:15 pm
Hi Guys n gals,

I've been cleaning a new build Charles Church estate for 2 1/2 years (well 47 houses out of 63) the 2yr snag has now finished and i'm forever fixing guttering etc. Apparently I'm the fountain of all knowledge!!

4 of the houses have a spray rendered gable end which due to algae has turned from white to green.

I've read the forums and think i've found the right product to spray on to kill the muck off. (without murdering their plants).

My question is ... what do I charge for this job? According to the fungicide it only lasts 6 - 12 months I could be repeating this job over n over.

Regards

Cap'n Sparkle

i do builders cleans for persimmon and charles church

they try and pay peanuts up here for pressure washing - i chucked the p/w side of it on new builds - i'd be looking at around £80 a house, most houses would take 2 people just over an hour

£5 pm...you are "The speacalist render cleaner" and the product whilst being effective is also expensive to buy/apply. Tell them somebody will pressure wash it for a lot less money...but you would not want to be responsible for the damage to the building/render long term.
We are getting good results coating render with waterbased Teflon...slows down algae growth by preventing moisture ingression into the render. It also allows the render/building to "breath".

Thanks Chris £5 per m2 sounds like a realistic price i'm thinking of using .....

http://www.builderdepot.co.uk/k-rend-algae-clean-5ltr.html

seems to be the best product that I've found so far (unless you know better).

Will spray on with wfp from a separate barrel in dilution - as I don't have a pressure washer.

The product is Quats ...but i cannot see the dilution rates. The one we use is mixed 50:1 and applied at 1L:5sqm. Get the data sheet and compare.

Due to a recent change in the Gas gas importer and with him being about 8 miles from my house, refusing to disclose who holds the spares stock if any and him being a total clock - I have reluctantly had to go over to the dark side (read orange).
I used to mix race fuel in my shed - I don't think the toluene has done me any good  ;)

Why the reference to formic ? I use oxalic for varroa ;)

I've got three gassers. The Husky 300 stroker is the same as last years and not a re badged KTM. I don't like the orange thing either but don't like an importer that won't answer questions honestly. I'm 50 in April so I'm getting myself a new bike - sorry I'm replacing a company vehicle

And he got to his bike before me - we came about 12th in the class and 27th overall. We do the 2 man 12 hour and team age just about came in under 100 years
