Title: basic book keeping
Post by: ste waddington on January 24, 2014, 07:16:16 pm
Hi guys. So i started my small fortnightly round on this monday 20th jan so far ive got 20 customers. 10 obe week and 10 the next., for now.

Im just a little confused about record keeping. I know i should have 3 coloumns. Dates of the week, earnings and expenses

My question is; in the date coloumn do i write 20-27th of jan or 20-26th as the 27th will be the next monday when i start my other 10 customers

Daft question but just want to get it right

Thanks in advance

Little confusing but if you mean which is the 7 day week itvwould be 20-26 as the 20th counts as a day...
20-21-22-23-24-25-26

7 day week

if its just for the three lines mentioned, do it monthly

ie, Jan-(sales) £1,500..............(.sales being your income}
     Jan-(expenses) £500
     Jan-(profit) £1000

I have 2 ledger style A4 sized books. One is for income, and the other for business expenses.

In the income book I itemise each transaction. I have 4 columns; 1) Date, 2) Customer details (house name/number and street name, 3) cash payments, and 4) bank payments (cheque or bank transfer).

In the expenses book the columns are headed thus; 1) Date, 2) Motor Vehicle, 3) Insurance, 4) Consumables, 5) Stationery.

hth.

I just run it on my ipad.

Lists of all my work,

Street name and number
Price
Cleaned
Paid

Then out all my recipes in a folder and once a year go through everything. Simples. :)

Why don't you use Aworka. Does the books and organises your round. all in a fraction of the time it takes to write it a ledger.

Do you do cooking as well then? Perhaps once it gets too dark to clean?
