Title: A bit hacked off with Gardiners
Post by: Carl2009 on January 23, 2014, 05:57:43 pm
I'm not one to air my complaints in public but in this case I am, to see if anyone else has had this type of experience. I should also say that I'm generally a Gardiners fan, having spent at least £2000 with them over the last 4 or 5 years.

So I decide that I'm going to change from Rectus 21 to Gardiners QR Shut Off couplings and I order all the bits I need off their website. The order gets delivered by Fed Ex today and - yet again - they've sent some wrong items. I seem to get wrong items once out of every 3 orders i'd say -anyone else have this problem? Back on the phone and they are sending the new ones out with stamps to return the wrong items.

Now I'm explaining to a fellow window cleaner what the connectors look like and that they look robust and as I'm handling one it falls to pieces in my hand. Jeez! if they can't handle me fiddling with them at my desk before they've even been used what chance do I stand in the field. If they pack up halfway through a day i'll be well hacked off especially as I've just spent near on £150 on various bits and pieces to convert from Rectus 21s.

Needless to say I'm going to be back on the phone tomorrow morning.   >:(

Hi Carl

Apologies for the incorrect parts being sent.

Could you email me with the name stamped on your packing list please. Could you also email me a photo of the part that has fallen to pieces. If you could include the failed part in with the other parts being returned.

Hi Alex, I've already spoken to the office this afternoon and they are sending out the correct parts along with stamps to cover return postage for the incorrect ones. Over the years i've had pole hoses with the wrong connectors on, things missing from orders; once you sent me 3 20" carbon filters and 3 20" sediment when I only ordered 1 of each. It seems to me that packing is a weak point. I'd rather not name the girl publicly - the office have her name. What's the email address I should use for you - I've just photographed it now and will send immediately.

Thanks

Had the same sort of thing sent the quick release coupling with wrong barb size. Second time it has happened. But sent the correct one next day with postage for the return which I posted today. All in all though find the service pretty good.

Yep and me, but like I said to the girl I'd rather just have what I ordered, rather than having the hassle.

Simple really innit.

It's cos you use a different name on here to what your real name is. Obvious innit. You keep getting sent Carl2009's stuff, jeezoos!

If you used your real name on CIU it would never have happened.  8)

It would be good to see your fittings setup - how you connect to microbore and pole hose, tap etc. Could you post pics?

I don't. I use 12mm hose.
Can be done with reducers though.

Just fit one where you like, flow control tap has nothing to do with the fittings. I don't use one, I use an electronic controller & so each time time I disconnect the pole hose the pump shuts off (water stop fitting on end of minibore- like the one in the link)

i have those same qr fittings on my van ports to connect my hose reels and they seem pretty bulletproof, i even reversed in a bollard and bent the under bumper plate and the fittings are un damaged despite taking the full force of the impact .

its obviously a faulty one and I'm sure alex will send a new one very quickly.

Well mistakes happen in every job. And sometimes more than once to the same person. It's how they deal with it that counts, and their attitude. I think Gardiners, whilst not perfect, are the leaders for customer service compared to and of the other wfp suppliers I have used.

I've ordered plenty with Gardiners and they've always been spot on.  Generally good reviews on the products they manufacture themselves, quick delivery and excellent

customer service.  It could be that whoever packed the delivery up dropped the connector or something..........? Who knows? Simply bad luck and human error?  Don't

sweat the small stuff, at least the boss man is on it.....from now on your'll be getting VIP treatment!

Quite agree - their customer service is great and their products are groundbreaking. Alex is a great bloke trying to do his best and I know mistakes will always happen. It's just the packing area that needs improvement IMHO. If it was only a couple of times then fair enough, but it's been a regular thing for me. (Nearly) all sorted now though.

Just an update on the "new" Gardiners quick release hose fittings I fitted in place of the Rectus 21...

The upshot is it was a great move. I've been using them for 2 months and have had not one drop of a leak. They've not got jammed either. They are basically metal Hozelocks and I have them sandwiched between protectaballs. They are a bit heavy as I think Alex mentioned when I was moaning about one falling to pieces before I'd used it. If these had been Rectus 21s or equivalents they'd have been broken by now.

Cheers

Carl
