Title: Any one noticing the economy picking up
Post by: Hilton on January 22, 2014, 01:50:24 pm
Its almost tangible,

The economy is going to spring into life, huge fall in unemployment announced today, people starting to spend again, commentators talking up the economy instead of the doom and gloom.

This will all filter through to all manner of business's so get ready for the good times to roll.

Only calls Ive had recently are from people wanting to pay next to nothing.

I'm not convinced,and the unemployment figures are probably a load of made up statistics from politicians.

The unemployment figures released today wont be accounting for the EU immigrants flooding into the country this year

If it's true perhaps people will start buying new carpets instead of cleaning them...  :o

Absolute nonsense,
slight bubble in the housing market down south the same ones that caused the bubble/trouble last time, caused in the main by rental investors and guess what they are at it again with booming rental market but worse than that;

 A crash is coming in 12-18 months from USA that will crush the financial markets bigger than 2007/8 and USA & Uk housing market will be decimated - up to 40% off prices and banks will go under- accounts frozen in UK like in Greece etc,the USA and UK are bankrupt its only delaying the inevitable
Gold and Swiss Franc against the dollar will be possible safe havens for investors.

Unfortunately Simon is an enlightened individual.

His second paragraph predictions are a bit extreme, not sure it will be that bad. But USA are in bad shape.

It is a housing debt based boom though, we are not a healthy economy like Germany who actually make money (make and sell things) ours is been based on house price boom.

Yep, the economy is definitely picking up, if the number of new shoes and handbags my wife's buying is anything to go by (or is that spelt 'Go Buy')?

I found last year that I got more calls around the beginning of the month just after pay day and it went quieter as the month went on but that was a certain demographic older people who are more financially wealthy just book when every they wanted.

Every time this round of the year employment is up, as 99% of the work force (shops etc) set on temporary staff for the Christmas shopping that lasts 3 months or so.  Let's see what the stats says in 3/4 months!

Definately. We have been a lot busier lately. The businesses around us are all busier they range from an industrial chemical supplier, curtain maker, asbestos removal, fish wholesalers, workwear embroidery(hes that busy he wants to hang himself ;D), outdoor and camping supplies, welding supplies etc etc. Talking to them they have all seen a marked upturn over the last 4-5 months.

But as Simon says there is a thread of thought amongst economists that things could go pear shaped in the future. There will be no money for bailouts and the government will HAVE to raid peoples bank accounts and other assets to raise money just as they have in Cyprus.

Make hay while the sun shines and stick it under the mattress.

A definate upturn commercial well up , hotel room cleans are booming right now .

A bit worrying that 3 months ago they said interest rate rise once unemployment reached 7% , then every month unemployment shoots down

Been much busier since July last year, prior to that we had 9 months of no new contracts (contract cleaning ) won 6 new contracts since and took on another 2 staff.

Carpet cleaning has been well up for the last 3 years. a local plant hire/contracting business is flat out at the moment, I think we need to get the building companies building as it tends to have a knock on effect, oh and will help house the immigrants.

If the bankers did what the government told them to do (lend money) and the government did what we elected them to do then we would be in utopia (think that's somewhere near shangri la)

Evidence for what hasn't happened yet? It's a prediction.

Where is the evidence it won't happen?

As to evidence there are now many high status powerful financial voices predicting such an outcome and more and more listening ears still the vast majority especially governments in power and certain market makers swim against the tide all making the impending crash more likely;

read below;

There was a economist that predicted the 2008 crash (I'm sure there was many) I can't remember his name, think he was an Australian guy. Can someone remind me his name? I want to see what he's saying now.

Steve Keen but so did Warren Buffet, who warned Greenspan his policies would lead to disaster..

On all the videos above etc, All very interesting ( Gordon Brown? are you serious?) but does not amount to much, China's growth for the last quarter was ONLY 7%, thats 7 % of their huge economy
but they will look internally for more growth as they have the most consumers in the world and have ignored them in their pursuit for world domination.

The biggest threat to U.S. currently that is not being addressed is the medical insurance industry that is bigger than all other forms of their economy, it is teetering on the brink of collapse due to many factors but in the main the Obesity pandemic, the costs for which are unsustainable.Obama Care will not rectify this, it's too late.

As for evidence in this country its out their right now and the last round of figures released are very encouraging which was reflected by the IMF raising Britain's growth forcasts for the next two years.More people working means more people spending and less burden on welfare, all will benefit including carpet cleaners.It has just taken the Zombies in government a long time to wake up to this fact.

Confidence in inward investment grows as a result as we are seen as a safer bet than elsewhere especially Europe as we are not the faltering Euro Zone, which is why we will not end up like Greece....Germany by the way suppresses wages and needs the other economies to remain weak for its exports, if it traded in Deutchmarks instead of the Euro its exports would collapse due to the value of the currency which would one of the most powerful in the world.

Germany has conquered Europe,,, except for Britain.

The economy is driven by confidence. If enough people say things are getting better enough times it will do.

We've had a great start to the year, December was very good as well, however, our business is always governed by the weather at this time of the year, if it's snowing or wet outside then the last thing people are thinking about is getting their cleaning done.  Spring has always been the traditional time for people to start getting house proud, at the moment, up here at least the weather has been great for January, lots of dry days, so the calls are coming in.  Long may it last.

Hi Guys

There will always be the doom and gloom merchants, I remember an economic expert called Bob on LBC, can't remember his surname who was predicting a stock market crash for many years, of course one came but the market still finished at a much higher level that when he first started predicting it.

I wouldn't say I have noticed much difference down here but then again with the powerhouse which is London so near I don't think we have suffered as much as some.

Cheers

Doug

This is quite worrying !!
Don't use that bank, but if it does go down, sure it will have a negative effect

I was talking to a guy that worked in 'the city' he originates from Sheffield and had come up to see to his mothers affairs after she had passed away, he said that in the city it's like a bubble where everything has just carried on as normal with huge salaries to spending large amounts of money on personal items, being a northerner growing up in a working class environment he was quiet embarrassed telling me this but I admired his honesty obviously this radiates out to the local economy.

Fourth quarter rise in a row,

fastest growth since 2007, Britain has the fastest growing economy in europe now, while France reported record unemployment yesterday.We better off in Europe or out ??

A carpet cleaner close to me has just secured a large contract to clean carpets for a major organisation plus he has turned down an offer of Insurance related business, all with in a week.

Its all about confidence and that seems to be growing as well.
