Does anyone use a volvo estate for wfp, or a similar car? I have been offered a volvo for £500, and was thinking about putting a small tank in the back, and using it for wfp until I can afford a decent van. Any thoughts?
-
I guess not then? I'm going to give it a try if I can't get my van sorted out, they are very cheap, and there is loads of space for a small tank.
-
the only thing I can say on this mate is that they're one of the most reliable cars out there, if you could go an extra few quid the diesels are great.

Yes a volvo will be fine for wfp. My step dad did it out of a focus and did fine.
Bung 10 25 litre barrels in the back and away you go.
-
Put a pump on a board so you can take it in and out the car, and have a split feed if you use barrels as you can draw out of 2 at a time. You can use a hose reel this way, make life a bit easier rather than using trolley/backpack...
That way you can use it as a family car as well as work.
Mate of mine used a picasso for wfp and did it that way, worked quite well.

I had a 125ltr tank in the back of a Volvo when I started WFP, worked OK but swapped to a VW t4 quite sharpish, have quit now but will be setting up the same again for my own and family's windows.

Thanks guys for the great advice! I'm going to give it a go, and see how I get on, it's only going to be temporary, until I can afford a decent van. The trouble is that I really need to carry a minimum of 400ltrs of water ideally, but not sure that the volvo will be up to that?
-
By using just a backpack you will naturally scrimp on water so why not get a backpack and a load of barrels for the volvo? Failing that you can pick up a van for £500 on gumtree, a little kangoo or similar. Many bargains on gumtree.
Best of luck anyway, im sure this time next year you will be fine and in the perfect van for your needa.

Although at a minimum of £25 a house, you should be able to afford a brandnew T5.....

Not sure why you have brought this topic back Mick? And fail to understand your idiotic comment. If you are interested then I will let you know that I didn't go for the volvo in the end, I decided to use a Focus which I already owned in the end, I used it as my van died and I was going through a difficult time in my life and had been neglecting my round for some time so could not afford a decent van. I managed to carry 300 ltrs using a small tank and a few 25ltr barrels. It got me through a difficult time, and I now have a Ford Transit and have got my round back up and running :)
