Title: telescopic ladders are the cheaper one ok?
Post by: PAUL ERITH on January 17, 2014, 05:47:11 pm
looking at getting telescopic ladders for roof access gate access etc to save getting ladders off the van all the time.

Do the cheaper ones do the job without falling apart, the prices vary from £60 from maplin to £150

Thanks Paul

We use one for gate access. It wont reach flat roofs tho, Think it was from Maplins.

Thats the only pic ive got of it next to my reel.

i would go for the little giant ladder from midland ladders

steve ainger swears by them, when they are in the A frame position they straddle a 6 ft gate / fence

Had a 3.75m tele from maplin for the last year or so, it's been brill as far as not having to get the double out but this one hasn't lasted well the feet which are made of hardened plastic have broken off and it doesn't collapse too well. I think I'll go for the little giant next time too.

I paid £18 for a 2 meter one from JTF.

First time I used them 2 rungs slipped as the rivets snapped.

Load of rubbish. but it served me right for being cheap  ;D

there for wheeling the thing around, they dont touch the ground unless you tip the ladder right back.

Ive had it about 2 1/2 years now & i think its great, wouldnt be without it.
Never had any trouble with it & still works as it did the day i brought it, with zero maintenance

I brought a cheap one of ebay had a year out of it and its starting to get more tricky to collapse but for the money well worth it.
The little giant looks good but then its a lot more.

Little Giant Ladder £350  :o :o :o :o  , I got  a cheaper teelscopic ladder of Ebay with free carry case  and stabiliser i paid about £80:00 about 3 years ago i only use 3-4 times a month and it is still going strong .

You can get one for £64.99 which extends and folds it looks the same make as mine but mine is just telescopic and is 3.8m or 12.6 ft when fully extended . Mike

Little Giant Ladder £350  :o :o :o :o
Give over.. thats a paltry sum against many many years useful service.. And still retain a second hand value..

Depends how often you are going to use it , I went wfp to do away with going up ladders clambering over fences and messing on going over flat roofs .

I only use mine to access a few windows a month which are set right back over  flat roofs which are impossible to reach with pole

So for me anything over a £100 is not worth the spend for such infrequent use  ;) . Mike

Great ladder Steve, but as above we use ladders very rarely we have a telescopic 3mtr which does reach flat roofs, and is ce marked cost £65 off flea bay. It's ONLY used for access, it's not for working off, other than a squirt of lubricant in the winter months it's worked great.

I did have one before that got abused ie.. People using it on rough uneven ground using while cleaning cony roofs and general misuse and broke after a year, but it did get a hell of a bashing with an 19 stone man on it
