Title: alcoholic window cleaners
Post by: dazmond on January 17, 2014, 04:55:32 pm
bumped into another windy today.ive seen him about a few times.11am this morning and he s stinking of booze.his mate who was with him says he drinks at least a bottle of vodka a day.

he s climbing ladders as well.100% trad.scrim over his shoulder and away he goes! ::)roll

now i once had a drink problem but never drank whilst working.apparently he s been banned from driving 4 TIMES!! ::)roll

HIS MATE WHOS ABOUT 25 WAS TRYING TO GIVE ME ADVICE ON WINDOW CLEANING!! ;D ;D

i just smiled and humoured him.his mate was asking me how much i charged the house i was cleaning as he used to do it but said the customer was a bit strange!he is an excellent customer with me!

the customer sacked him because he disappeared for months on end and didnt clean them properly and missed half the windows out cos he couldnt reach them with a ladder.

i really dont know how this guy survives.some of the houses he was cleaning around me were very posh but he s cleaning them drunk up a ladder! ::)roll

he says its the only way he can clean windows as he finds it boring. ;D

Years ago we were asked to clean an off license, and flat above it, because the window cleaner would only clean the upstairs flat after he had drunk 2 litres off cider which he purchased from the shop  :o

Do they work out of a red car Daz?

There's a couple near me who I sometimes bump into at tesco. At lunchtime I'll be buying a butty and a bag of crisps and this guy is buying 2 cans of super strength lager. No shame either, happily sat on their customers front wall supping the can.  :o

In my 1st year, I had an old sweat working for me on all sorts of WC jobs. He was about mid 50's and would work like a robot all morning. Then after 1 pm afternoons, he had to be home. I reckon he spilled more than I could drink. What a worker, but after 2pm, he was away in his own little world I think.

I've met a lot of alkies in this game. Not a good sign for our lot is it?  :(

I was cleaning a shop last week at 8am,a window cleaner who has been about for 30years snd who likes a drink pulls up in his car  stops for a chat and then walks in the shop and buys 2cans of super strength cider. He comes out has a chat with me then drives off.
He was telling me he has ladders left in various customers gardens over different areas so he can walk round.
Hard to believe people let people like this work on there homes in his defence he did seem a nice enuff bloke.

Quote
The NHS estimates that around 9% of men in the UK and 4% of UK women show signs of alcohol dependence (sometimes known as ‘alcoholism’) (1). This means that drinking alcohol becomes an important, or sometimes the most important, factor in their life and they feel they’re unable to function without it.

http://www.drinkaware.co.uk/check-the-facts/health-effects-of-alcohol/mental-health/alcohol-dependence

If that statistic is right, about 9% of the members here show signs of alcoholism.

I reckon that's about right, from reading some of the posts.

Hi

Always alcohol free when working! However Ive an Irish customer who makes me a milky coffee and laces it with a good measure of Irish mist liquer, For the next hour Im very happy and whistling loudly and I get through the job with ease. It certainly makes the window cleaning very enjoyable but its only a one off every month and dont make it a habit.
This Chistmas as well as last year she gave me a full bottle of Irish mist, Great customer!
