Title: Rotary, issue
Post by: M.Acorn on January 13, 2014, 10:10:25 am
Bought my recon Victor 17 inch low rpm machine about 3 years ago, recently I have noticed it's struggling to start unless I lift it up off the floor so the brush is not contacting, once it spins up I can lower it down and it's ok.
Is it starting to go wrong ?
Is there anything I should look at ?

Capacitor needs changing, it's a black cylindrical 2 inches long, it give the rotary a boost on starting to overcome the initial drag.

Might be worth waiting for a second opinion !!

MigHt also be the belt slipping, but 95 % it's the capacitor

Spoke to them, 3 things, capacitor / relay and belt, going to change all 3 and see how I get on.
With the belt I am assuming I have to remove the bottom plate ?

Change the belt last, if the other 2 cure the problem then keep the belt in reserve, I hear they are a bit of a git to change and why do it if it's not necessary

Exactly what I will do Mike, I bought it as a recon and in honesty it's not really been used enough to warrant a new belt yet.
They didn't call me back, so will pester them again tomorrow, guess I can pick up a capacitor at Maplins if all else fails

Take the old one to Maplins, they will find the correct replacement.
They are easy to fit, just push connectors and two wires.
Save your money on the rest.
