Title: 120w Solar Panel
Post by: Alex Wingrove on January 08, 2014, 08:39:11 pm
Can someone with some knowledge please tell me if a 120w solar panel mounted on the roof of my van will produce enough power to run two pumps?

Or how much charge will it give the van battery?

Kind Regards

Alex

Hi Alex. Why didn't you ring me?!
No it won't. The output of the panel depends on the irradiance levels for the day as you know. As such, a 120w panel may at times only be producing 30w or less, not even enough for a lightbulb. The power a panel like that produces, especially when mounted flat, fluctuates too much to do a steady job like you require.

120W at 12V is 10A.  Will definitely run one pump (shurflow is 7A from memory) IF it's at right angles to the sunlight.  IF the sunlight is at the strength it shines on midsummer's day (that's when they will have worked it out). IF there's no exaggeration of its power output. IF a cloud doesn't cross the sun while you're cleaning.  etc, etc.

Alex, IF that 120W panel was linked to 10 other 120W panels, it may work..... :-*
