1st day back and its a wet and windy day here :(
couple of questions for any1 else bored out there
1. How do you get work from country houses, big stand alone ones out in countryside?! if i were to canvass them here i reckon people wud be uncomfortable with it due to current times break ins are common and people wud be suspicious of guy going round canvassing
2.And how do you guys go about getting contact details for area managers for some of the big shopping stores.ie aldi, lidl. tesco etc

i have a fair few houses in the countryside, i bought a round of someone who lived out there but i have picked up a few more by canvassing the near by houses, people seem to know each other so its actually easy to pick up new custys,
I canvassed a farm house where i did a few other properties (there is prob only 5 houses in a mile radius in this rural area) the lady called up the houses which i did already because she knew them to confirm they were customers of mine and that I provided a good service, I would say if you are going to canvass dont try to push them into saying yes there and then give them a quote on a business card and say have a think and let me know.
she told me they are weary of people driving about in plan white vans because of rural crime etc,
they can be really good jobs as i charge a premium because of the distances, oh and expect your van to get filthy

Knock them Tom and just drive to each one, my philosophy is why would they have a doorbell if they didnt want you to ring it ;D

+1 drive to each one, always have a local landline number on van and literature, it will gain you more trust from your potential customers

tesco etc are all done subbed and subbed again. the moneys pants if im honest ,earn more doing houses with non of the docket paperwork and waiting long time for payments . you need at least a couple of workers to make it viable or you will bog down and end up hating it
. i got the ones i have via my website and the work will find you in time, once the previous guy quits
one thing i will say is dont do any out of your area if youre offered em, cos itll cost you dearly in fuel for what

find the local parish mag and put a ad in there
I put ads in to mags cost of £70 and £50 a year and they more than paid for them self ;)

Parish mag - works sometimes but can often die off quickly and you can pick up other windies rejects who say yeah yeah yeah to regular and you just really get a hard work one off! Ok if you train 'em or hit an area where there is no windy but that's the same with regular canvassing.
If you get say five houses in a mile radius and they are a fair distance from home, unless you work in all weathers you only need a heavy shower day to "split them up" and you find the next month you put them later in the month so you do them all together with the last one you did on the previous month or you're driving out to them separately.
Just put your prices up around February or March - if they pay their council tax in instalments those are "free months". ;)

My brother had a short stint at window cleaning a few years ago and did this, he got quite a good response, charged high prices too to cover the journeying.
