My missus treated me to a proper gortex lightweight jacket for Christmas - Sprayway Compact 2 ... about £90 from go out doors http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/sprayway-compact-mens-waterproof-jacket-p133887

Should have listened to Dazmond and others on here ... last 2 days its been nice keeping dry when working in rain always got by with non gortex which keeps a little of the rain off but always got damp before day was done.

Didnt your missus read the reviews?, not that great ;D

I have never had gore-tex  clothes so cant really comment. But my trusty military surplus gore-tex lined boots (£30), have served me very well indeed!.
