I'm thinking about getting one of these but looking at engine sizes the most popular seems to be the 1.6 and 2 litre model. I'll be putting a 500 litre tank in so would the 1.6 do or would I need to go for the 2 litre?
-
1.6 will do it ok
2.0 I believe better on fuell, plus it's 6 speed.

Brand new or second hand? I need a similar sized van (also like Vivaro, Trafic, Primastar) as it needs to have twin passenger seats but most vans for sale in my budget are high mileage and have probably been misused to within an inch of its life. You could probably get a really good deal at this time of year, but the market is such a lottery
-
Go for the 2.0 as the 1.6 have turbo issues I've heard
-
I've looked on Auto trader where I can get a low mileage (below 100,00) 4 year old for approx. £5,000!
-
Below 100,000 miles qualifies as low mileage for a diesel? Coz that's about the time you start having major problems that need a lot of money to fix or replace. I've just been badly burned with a van I've just bought - I'm making the switch from trad to WFP, bought my first van (45000 miles, confirmed by the DVLA before you ask) and it has spent more time being inspected and fixed with major problems than I've had it on my drive preparing it and waterproofing it for the tank. I'm asking for my money back as it's not fit for purpose and have been refused! That's the short version and it looks like it'll go to court at some point but right now, I need to get a(nother) van but shied away from anything above 80,000 miles because that's when things are more likely to go wrong. And yes, I am aware of the irony!
Klean that's roughly my budget, maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less, have to see what's down my way (Surrey), or I have family in Banbury as an alternative, but once bitten etc (I hate cliches but that seemed very apt!)

Cbwc what van was it you've had problems with?

Can't decide myself between a transit or t5

Cant help notice you are asking about the Dispatch/Expert, as opposed to the Dispatch/Expert/Scudo, is there some reason you are not mentioning the fiat?. All 3 are essentially the same vans, made in the same factory, using the same running gear.
Get the 2.0, you will appreciate the extra power and torque, even though you don't actually need it. The bonus is the 2.0 is also more economical, albeit, not by much. Also, if you can, go for one of the 1200kg payload versions which has heavier duty suspension.

T5 all day long if you can afford it.

I've had two 2.o hdi experts one on an 08 plate and one on a 61 plate, not experienced any engine faults on either.
I had both vans from new both had problems with anti roll bar bushes, this was when both had only done few thousand miles, one bushes were replaced no other problems.
I find the expert to be a good van, three front seats, handy as I have two kids.
I've been happy with both vans, they suit my requirements and do the job.

I did mean to say the Scudo at the time but wasn't 100% sure of the name!

I loved my (swb high roof) daily, still miss it, but cant really justify running a van that size. Hoping to pick up a large chunk of extra work at the start of next year, so might start thinking about a daily again then!

the only reason I sold the iveco's was to save on fuel but I spent loads on this fiat scudo 2007 60000 miles on the clock

I bought mine with 170k miles(!), but it ran as sweet as you like, quieter and more refined than my transit connect. I got 29mpg out of it, which i think was pretty good for a van like that. Loved the high up driving position, the london taxi rivaling turning circle and the extremely powerful heating and ventilation (which was a godsend in both the winter and summer!)
My connect gives 40mpg though, and, touchwood, no problems so far!

Had 1.6 dispatch ok van but had nothing but problems with
Little things like radio, heater, clutch judder, horn, wipers , electrics etc
Never actually let me down but got fed up with taking it back
To get things sorted..... Had 30k miles on it .
Biggest problem was the pedals were to close together so if
You have size 10 feet think again.

2.0 Dispatch here, brilliant van. Bought it second hand about 1,5 year ago. Nothing wrong with it, 110k on the clock, runs beautifully, great interior, no niggles or anything. Galvanized steel body as well. Get 29-30Mpg with 650L Grippamax system and ladders on the inside. Good turbo diesels only just get started at 100k.
Electric window regulator broke a month ago, had to get that fixed but apart from that it's great. Came from a Berlingo from 1997 with 170K on the clock, never a problem either. Sure there will be things that are going to need replacing at this mileage, but the turbo and intercooler have already been replaced, which is common on any car/van around the 100k. Make sure it's got full service history.

Cheers fsh with any vehicle is a must!
